I hope Galileo didn't fall into that trap

The sad thing is that so many still believe this way today... prefering to believe in the 7 day creation of the world just a few thousand years ago rather than scientific evidence otherwise... no wonder we are in such trouble!

It is interesting how incorrect facts sway justice to be unjust.

The really sad thing is that so many liberal religionists (abiding the religion of socialism, collectivism being god - the giver of rights) are so ignorant of history and scriptural doctrine, interpreting the word day in a 21st century kind-a-way. Of course we know replacing old words with new definitions is also a favorite way of liberals/conservatives to change the constitution to a living document.

Some people need to read Spong's "Sins of the Scripture.' Learn a little about the Bible besides the brayings of the special interest preachers.

Fools exist throughout human society, including churches and other religious organizations. That does not mean the entire organization is without value. It simply means it is human.

I shudder to think of the number of innocent people punished by the churches throughout history for being an unbeliever. Sadly, 'unbelievers' today receive similar treatment. A man without religion is like a fish without a bicycle.

Galileo and Bellarmine were actually good friends. It is very unlikely that Bellarmine actually believed this statement but he was forced by Urban VIII to deliver the verdict to Galileo that he was to submit to Church teaching the time.

Science continues to prove how little we actually know about our incredibly complicated yet perfectly balanced universe. It appears that the earth rotates around the sun from our still limited vantage point in the universe, but expand it immeasurably and it is also possible that the entire universe revolves around the earth. This is, today, still an unprovable point.

Well, if you're a saint then you can get away with murder - and - there's always absolution - just confess to a priest - then start over.

Oh, that thing about the universe revolving around the earth; that's actually how it works - Newtonian heat and mechanics (Newtonian physics) has the proof. You don't even need particle physics.
