I believe it was Napoleon who said, "History is Lies Agreed Upon".

History has been written in large extent by "wikiality"; as it has been said, "history was written by those who hanged heroes". That is why understanding -- as much as possible -- the social pressures, understandings, philosophies, geography, ethnic and cultural trends, etc. are important when reviewing history -- not just in reading one author's interpretation of such. All history IS, however, subjective to the author who writes...

Mostly -- especially 'news' which becomes the reference for 'history' later. History is written by the victors. Churchill said, "History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it." There is no such thing as objectivism in the press -- and there cannot ever be.

I believe history is false too a certain extent, because our history books are not accurate .

I am 70. I have begun studying ancient history again after lo these many years. I loved the quote. No matter how many books are written and read, it is impossible to get inside the heads and hearts of long ago.

I once worked with the Tlinget natives of Alaska. They have a mountain of paper work, legal docs, historical evidence, etc., etc. etc. to show Seward's Folly to be a complete lie (-; or otherwise a terminological inexactitude) from start to finish / ab inition through fruition ;-). The Tligits have tried to adjudicate their grievances, wrongs and all the lies but to no avail, that will never happen in the occupying statist theocracy that infests the rest of the States (all 58 according to Mr. Obamunist Goodwrench the assassin)

If a people's possessing a right understanding of history is that unimportant, why is it, particularly,
that the totalitarians among us are
as intent as they are upon commandeering the narrative of it?

Such a quote rings true and shakes this nation to its foundational fabric. Show Trial and Kangaroo court. Total disregard for our Constitution and Oath to defend. If such behavior is allowed to continue all/if any confidence will be destroyed.
