Alcohol prohibition built up a huge police force to combat it -- rather than firing everyone, they had to come up with another boogeyman. If we repealed the drug laws today, over half the prison population would be released -- non-violent drug offenders fill our prisons. It would be a terrible blow to the police departments around the nation -- of course the black market would be gone and street gangs would suffer tremendously -- i.e. communities would be safer, users would have access to regulated products, billions of dollars a year would be saved, and MAYBE we might heal another obviously racist wound in America. No worries, though, for I am sure that after drug prohibition is abolished, guns will become the new enemy and the 'War On Guns' will begin. Yawn. When will we ever learn...
