What if I believe Nietzsche is correct? Does my belief automatically make his statement false?

I strongly agree with Nitzsche.. belief is to think irracional, against the only way we have to know the true !!

Reminds me of one definition of faith. Faith is all we have left after reality sets in. Another is believing something without any evidence to support it. An example would be having faith that Obama is going to fix the economy or that Jesus will return to earth.

Who is running this website? Perhaps you should dig up a dictionary and look up the definition of 'liberty'. Nearly half of your 'liberty quotes' have nothing to do with the subject at all. And by the way, Faith is Truth.

I have no affinity for Nietzsche or his views. The end of his life shows exactly how delusory his beliefs were. However, as athiests go, he was the most honest in his philosophy of what the world should be like if there is no God. If we were to accept his statement as true, it would most definately apply to him. His "belief" meant that he did not want to know what is true; there is a God!

Belief has nothing to do with scientific truth. "Believing" may be the enemy of open mindedness.

What I meant to say Mike is give me facts not beliefs. Belief is like an estimate or a guess sometimes we do have to make estimates, guesses, or take a shot in the dark as a belief. The Bible says that faith or belief is the essence of things unknown so it is an estimate. Evolution and global warming are analyses of bodies of facts and the conclusion that what we have seen happening in the past will continue to happen in the future. Happy New Year dude!

Beliefs, for the most part, are irrelevant. If you believe something is true and it is indeed true, then it is true, but if you believe something is true and it is indeed false no amount of belief will make it true. There is nothing wrong with having beliefs, theories, and hopes -- just keep them in context. Anything else is like an addicted gambler that prays, pleads, and begs that the next card will pay off.

That is the most irrational statement I've ever heard. But I suppose the author _believes_ this statement to be true. There is so much in this world that each of us must personally determine what to believe... because there si so much of this world that we cannot personally touch, see and feel. The naturalist _believes_ that nothing exists besides what he can experience with his own physical senses. Yet someone else could _believe_ the obvious, that the metaphysical - like purpose, meaning, idea - even the concept of TRUTH itself - exists apart from the confirmational data of a microscope.
