John Dewey Quote

“The teacher is engaged not simply in the training of individuals, but in the formation of the proper social life.... In this way, the teacher always is the prophet of the true God and the usherer-in of the true Kingdom of God.”

This kind of thinking has evolved into what we have today. Children are are not being taught "how" to think, but "what" to think.

It's no longer education, it's indoctrination. If memory serves, Hitler did this, it was called "Hitler Youth".

If this statement is at all true of teachers relationships with students it is true of all of our relationships with young people. Of course young people form their opinions and views from the adults they meet. Granted that teachers are in a greater position of influence but I would suggest that persons of all ages are constantly looking for prophets. Ever watch religious TV.

Of course the "true God" is the collective of uber-elite socialists and the "Kingdom of God" is the State. Dewey was an unabashed Fascist (progressive, in other words).

Together isn't fascism (centralized control) and progressive (social reform) an oxymoron? Isn't right-wing conservatism (against change) and a theocracy more closely aligned to fascism? And, the need to change the status quo more aligned with being a progressive?

Would be nice to see some of the kids from the polygamists and the Branch Davidians (remember them) and all of these other drop out of society home schoolers meet some real people and get a real life.

Fascism and progressivism of the early 20th century are very closely related. Both are socialist movements. Mussolini started his political life as an international socialist but became disillusioned with it when he determined that the international movement would never really succeed because of national rivalry. Then he became a national socialist because he believed he could make it work on a national level. Progressivism draws its inspiration from Fabian socialism (ie international socialism). Progressivism is not just about social reform, it is economic as well. FDR's New Deal was entirely progressive and economic and Mussolini would have been proud to call it his own.

5 stars for the accuracy in depicting today's school administrators; a thumbs down for what the concept has done to this country. Waffler, my home schooled eldest child started College at age 15. You might want to check and see how many home schoolers are in post-graduate studies in the ivy league schools.

Liberals love to say that fascism is of the right, that Hitler was a right winger. This is non sense, Hitler was a socialists , a definite left winger. NAZI meant National Socialist Party. Fascists and todays Liberals are kindred spirits.

The quote speaks (badly) for itself. But to help define fascism.... 1.A government whose powers are unrestrained. 2.A leader who is a dictator, absolute in power but responsible to the party which is a preferred elite. 3.An economic system in which production and distribution are carried on by private owners but in accordance with plans made by the state directly or under its immediate supervision. 4.These plans involve control of all the instruments of production and distribution through great government bureaus which have the power to make regulations or directives with the force of law. 5.They involve also the comprehensive integration of government and private finances, under which investment is directed and regimented by the government, so that while ownership is private and production is carried on by private owners there is a type of socialization of investment, of the financial aspects of production. By this means the state, which by law and by regulation can exercise a powerful control over industry, can enormously expand and complete that control by assuming the role of banker and partner. 6.They involve also the device of creating streams of purchasing power by federal government borrowing and spending as a permanent institution. 7.As a necessary consequence of all this, militarism becomes an inevitable part of the system since it provides the easiest means of draining great numbers annually from the labor market and of creating a tremendous industry for the production of arms for defense, which industry is supported wholly by government borrowing and spending. 8.Imperialism becomes an essential element of such a system where that is possible — particularly in the strong states, since the whole fascist system, despite its promises of abundance, necessitates great financial and personal sacrifices, which people cannot be induced to make in the interest of the ordinary objectives of civil life and which they will submit to only when they are presented with some national crusade or adventure on the heroic model touching deeply the springs of chauvinistic pride, interest, and feeling. Where these elements are found, there is fascism, by whatever name the system is called.

John Dewey was instrumental in the development of the current-day public school system in America. He is exactly what is wrong with 'school' today. My experience mirrors this philosophy -- I was not encouraged to learn but to obey. I could hardly wait to go to the library when given the chance.

John Dewey happened to be a communist. He is very much responsible for the mess the ecucational system is in today.

A slight modification to my above statement is, my eldest started college at age 14 and was 15 at that school's year end. The occupying statist theocracy infesting this land has set itself apart as the supreme god. By way of example, it creates laws out of nothing and enforces its demonic will with extreme prejudice and violence. Canons by executive, legislative and judicial (the religious sacrament of marriage by example) expand such god’s influence and power. Said god propagates itself through dogmas in government seminaries (schools) forming the proper social life.... In this way, the teacher always is the prophet of the true god and the usherer-in of the true Kingdom of God.

blasphemous...the teacher is an extension of the STATE, molding kids to be cookie cutter likenesses of one another. Karl Marx:
"The education of all children, from the moment that they can get along without a mother's care, shall be in state institutions at state expense.". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZPUSydzaFE
