Unfortunately forgotten. Not only that, cops have no more rights than everyone else and are accountable for their actions. The attempt to remove all accountability and liability from 'law enforcement personnel' has resulted in a police state without limit. There are criminals in the police station as well as the government -- that is why our republican form of government places strict limits on what government employees may and may not do. TSA, FBA, CIA, and a host of other secret police organizations operate without oversight -- is it so surprising then to discover that these organizations are biggest drug traffickers in the world? The big thieves hang the smaller ones...

Hi, I'm the guy who posted this originally. This was in the course of an argument on Usenet (soc.singles, I think, in the early-mid 90s.) Someone put it in their .sig, and a lot of people liked it, I guess. Other than that, I'm just this guy -- not famous or anything.

"Whatever power you give to the good cops, goes to the bad ones, too. Never forget that."

"Whatever power we give to the good politicians, goes to the bad ones as well." Think of the USA PATRIOT ACT.

There are dozens of Supreme Court Decisions that now state that no policing agency or agent has any liability from or responsibility to "We The People" - individually or in concert. All policing agencies/agents complete job description (as concerns liability and responsibility) goes to protecting government property (that government no longer representing sovereign individual's inalienable rights - at a most base legal level, traffic rule violation enforcement is not to serve or protect "We The People" but rather, finance the foreign government). At the founding of the de jure States united, there was no police department(s) as they were perceived and feared as a standing army to do a foreign despots dictates. The few Sheriffs / Sheriff departments were elected to support the individual sovereign's right to act as agents of justice. Those perceptions and fears of a local standing army (police, swat, etc.) have been realized with the occupying statist theocracy infesting this land's complete take-over. Within decades prior to the war between the States, there were just a few police departments established by heavy socialist financing, influence and indoctrination application (by way of example: Boston, New York and Philadelphia). After the war, the nationalist agenda established police departments nation wide to implement the slave master oligarch's new regime.
