The Declaration of Arbroath 1320 Quote

“For as long as one hundred of us shall remain alive, we shall never in any wise consent submit to the rule of the English, for it is not for glory we fight, nor riches, or for honour, but for freedom alone, which no good man loses but with his life.”

~ The Declaration of Arbroath 1320

Declaration of Arbroath (April 6, 1320) author is unknown but assumed to be Bernard de Linton, Abbot of Arbroath and Chancellor of Scotland. Often attributed to Robert the Bruce.
Signed by eight earls and forty-five barons, it asked for the Pope's dispassionate intervention in the bloody quarrel between the Scots and the English.

Thank God the wisdom of the Scots has at last been consulted. I was beginning to think that wisdom and knowledge were the preserve entirely of the Americans.

Life without Freedom and Liberty...isn't Life.

Pelosi, Reid, and the rest of the Obama gang are doig everything possible to make freedom a thing of the past in the USA. And the gutless Republicrats are going along with them. Vote Libertarian.

I stand with the quote's sentiment and context. For as long as I shall remain alive, I shall never in any wise consent or submit to the rule of the occupying statist theocracy that infests this land or any other tyrannical despot, for it is not for glory I fight, nor riches, or for honour, but for freedom alone, which no good man loses but with his life.

And they also gave us Scotch Whiskey! What a great heritage. A touch of Laphroaig is called for.

No offence meant, J.B. But there's no 'e' in Scotch Whisky. :)

I'm working on a poem about the Battle of Culloden and slipped over here for the quote. Standing on that hallowed ground, when visiting in May, my heart was too sore to write. I've finally found words.
For the party interested in Scottish contributions to the world, they're almost everywhere you look. You'll find that brilliance abounds with Scottish origin. .

It wasn't Robert the Bruce that made that quote, was a part of the 1320 Declaration of Arbroath to the pope, in support of Robert Bruce being King of the sovereign nation of Scotland and having his excommunication lifted, made by 8 Earls and 38 Barons.

The King wrote a seperate letter.

"For as long as one hundred of us shall remain alive, we shall never in any wise consent submit to the rule of the American oligarchy, for it is not for glory we fight, nor riches, or for honour, but for freedom alone, which no good man loses but with his life."
I think Robby won't mind me changing it a little..

Thank you Scotland for the Kings James Bible 1611. Long live Liberty and Freedom.

Anyone who sits back and watches tyrannical rule coming from afar is no countryman at all in my view, the same view in the distance they chose to ignore.
