I agree but let's agree to give that right to straight people as well - out of magnanimity.

If it were legal altogether, there would be nothing to guard but only to share. Seed bearing herb for the service of man, so says the KJB. We already have the right given to us by God, there goes the state trying to give us what we already have. Wanting us to think those on the hill are the good guys. Dangling the carrot that is already yours. Stigmatized through fear tactics. Great for upset tummies and restless minds, glaucoma also. Use with moderation, just as a glass of wine.

@watchman, You've got a point there -- we DO already have the rights, so why is there all this fight about gay marriage? Why is the State even party to a marriage? For that matter, why is the State involved in what one may grow and enjoy the fruits thereof? In the fight for Liberty -- and thus the fight against statism in its many forms -- conservatives are going to have to let go of using the power of the State to force their beliefs regarding homosexuality and drugs upon the consenting adults who do not share those beliefs -- it only continues to give aid to the Leftist 'progressives.' End the war on drugs (started by Republicans, particularly the Religious Right) and the State's involvement in marriage (like DOMA) -- these are distractions and the State should never be involved in the first place. THEN, the homosexual lobby will also not be able to use the State to garner favored political status.

If America's governments truly defended Liberty, the statists wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

That is exactly the point !! The religious dogmas of the right wanting to say smoking, dancing, drinking and playing cards is the problem. Not true, moderation is the key to being free. Sexual perversion is corrected by nature. But some times mother could not stand dads pipe or cigar !! Regardless of what dad had in his pipe. It has been that way sense the beginning of time !! I grew up in Florida with a church on every corner. From personal experience, it is a smoke screen !
Separation from such dogma, sets you free in deed ! Let your moderation be known. Unto them that are pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. Titus 1:15.
Hast thou faith ? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. Rom 14 : 22,23. You do not hear these truths from their pulpit, they would lose control of the minds of their constituents. We are at Liberty and Freedom.

(-; Me Too ! ;-) If gay's want to marry each other, that is their religious right. If married gay's want to grow marijuana, that is their farming right. If married gay's want to defend what is theirs by armed means, that is their right.

Patrick Henry, Red Hill

"Arbitrary power is most easily established on the ruins of Liberty abused to licentiousness."

~ George Washington
