I believe so -- however, WHEN truth shall rise again could be tomorrow or 1000 years from now!

Dave Wilber, St. Louis MO

No one can search the truth on any subject until they doubt that they have it.

Ken, Allyn, WA

Everyone has the "truth" or so they think. Civilizations that have their truths have come and gone when they are crushed by another. Memes can be so completely destroyed by an invader that it will never realistically come back. How many people take the Olympian gods seriously today? How many people worship Thor and Odin? People should be careful what "truth" they crush because there is no guarantee that a beneficial "truth" will rise again.

E Archer, NYC

I don't think so, Ken. People BELIEVE what they think is true as 'truth,' but the truth is whatever it is, not whatever we think it is. The point is that the 'truth' is already and inherently, unavoidably true -- it is not necessarily what we think, and most very likely, NOT what we have believed. Untruth cannot stand, no matter what we believe, without being propped up. But the truth stands on its own, the cosmos keeps on turning without our say so. What we know is a fraction of what there is to know. Life is an awakeing process, not a battle of arbitrary 'truths' -- it is a battle of wills perhaps, but not truth -- for "Truth crushed to Earth shall rise again." The real 'truth' is indeed 'beneficial.' Our myths draw us to deeper understanding, but they are not 'truths'. I do believe that the truth can be hidden or colored, but it is absolute and unchangable never-the-less.

In what writting by Wm Cullen Bryant is this quote?

    Waffler, Smith

There can be truth in science. In every thing else, culture, religion, sentiments, feelings, etcetera consensus is what amounts to "truth" in any given society.

    jim k, Austin, Tx

Eye witnesses to an auto accident will give different versions of the "truth". And they, each one, think they know the truth.

    Mike, Norwalk

jim, good point. Though, as Archer emphasizes, the truth is the truth, no matter what anyone sees, hears, senses, thinks or says, truth becomes relevant to the beholder or impacted. Your statement has extreme relevance when related to a jury. The jury is to determine fact and law. Truth, here relating to the fact(s), must be viewed from multiple perspectives to attain the one single truth.
