It consists in the translation of those declarations into definite action.”Woodrow Wilson ~ Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924) 28th US PresidentSpeech, 1914 Power , President , Responsibility , Rights , Speech Ratings and Comments Reply J Carlton, Calgary 1/22/10 Which is why we may be witnessing a return by the American people to being a nation of riflemen, before the Globalists come to disarm us and render action in the defense of our liberties, beyond our reach. Reply Anonymous, Reston, VA, US 1/22/10 What WW fails to point out is that the measure of those actions is an indication of if liberty and justice have been achieved or not... we don't achieve liberty by being the school yard bully who starts using the knife in as a youth and soon graduates to the gun they wave around until they kill someone out of their own insecurities... and this is all a "nation of riflemen" would be, a collection of little "me me me" school yard bullies. The mature action is one of compassion and helping of those in need, of protecting the liberties of all members of the group. Reply Waffler, Smith 1/22/10 If liberty has to do with the rights of man then it is A Globalist Undertaking. The USA is the biggest globalist power on the planet trying as we should to advance our princiles and freedoms worldwide. If they are not true for the globe then they are not true for us. Now if the globe fights back with their values then so be it that is the hand we have been dealt by the founding fathers. I think the actions WW is talking about is more in the nature of legal actions like Civil Rights Laws, Voting Rights Laws, National Guardsmen as high school student escorts, etcetera. Reply cal, lewisville, tx 1/22/10 Reston, there is a BIG difference between rights and welfare. When has it ever been compassionate to "take from Peter to pay Paul." How compassionate Jimmy Carter was-when he used other people's money! Reply jim k, Austin 1/22/10 Robbing Peter to pay Paul is fine with Paul, until Peter runs out of money. Reply J Carlton, Calgary 1/22/10 Screw Globalism. Buy a gun, defend your rights, defend America. Reply Waffler, Smith 1/22/10 Carlton you are for rights for yourself I take and don't give a damn about others having rights. The differerence I think between us is you are for individual freedom (your freedom) but don't give a damn about the freedom of the brotherhood, human kind. Well as Martin said if anyone is denied freedom it affects us all, if that is globalims so be it. I am sure you know the whole story about the tyrants coming for your neighbor and you say nothing until they come for you, well then it is to late. If you are not for globalism in reference to liberty you or your decedents will not have freedom. You might as well go help Talibanized the world. Reply Waffler, Smith 1/22/10 What you are really saying Carlton is "Screw the founding fathers and their principals." I am not shocked but you are finally showing your true colors Reply J Carlton, Calgary 1/22/10 Couldn't be more wrong Waffler (as usual). I'm for Individual rights...EVERYBODY'S Individual rights. And that is EXACTLY in line with the Constitution and the Founding father's. YOU are the one who is constantly espousing communist values, so don't even begin to tell em me I'm selfish. You would have us all in chains of servitude to your beloved Big brother state. You know here to stick your socialist values Kamrade. Reply RBESRQ 1/22/10 Well done Reston - you have it right. Unfortunately the gentleman from Austin has to understand the true meaning of life and living and then perhaps he will understand the power behind compassion. Nearly all philosopher’s, intellectual’s, Christian’s (some), atheist’s, and guru’s believe the foremost attribute to an equitable life for all is through compassion. Krishnamurti has a wonderful passage on this in his book “The Pocket Krishnamurti” With compassion there is intelligence and through that intelligence there is compassion. Jim, please read this book, but read it slowly and let the words speak for themselves - Liberty is define in compassion. Reply Mike, Norwalk 1/22/10 Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 1/24/10 Declaring something is a right does not make it one. My natural rights exist and have always existed before and after someone declared them. They are predefined. I have the right to do anything I please as long as I don't interfere with others' right to do as they please. Declaring health care for instance, as a right does not make it one because health care is a good and a service that someone has to pay for. When I claim my supposed right, who pays if I don't? Perhaps I should declare my right to Waffler's, RBE's, or Reston's house and move in. Maybe I should declare my right to travel and take their cars. I'm sure they'd be compassionate and let me have them. Please have the tank full when I come to pick it up. Reply B Fingers, hun bch 1/24/10 Yes! Thank you Ken. You cannot have liberty, that is freedom, without giving it to your neighbor. Liberty comes from having a choice. Do I want the same product, health care as you? Maybe not/probably not. Do I want the same car as you? Think not. Do I want the same yo-yo as you? I don't even want a yo-yo. If we have a government that can dictate that we purchase a specific product and service, we no longer have the freedom to choose. And neither does our neighbor. We are now living under a dictatorship with mandatory laws about our bodies. We no longer will own them, the government will. Slavery was abolished, but this brings it back under a new label. The United States is a sovereign nation. We do not allow other countries to come here and tell us what our freedoms and values must be. And if we want our nation to be respected, we must do the same...allow them the freedom to have the government of their choice. We are not gods here so it is not our business to dictate how other countries have chosen to live. We only have our blueprint...our Constitution and bill of Rights. And we can live by example. butterfingers Butterfingers Reply RBESRQ 1/24/10 %*$@ There is no such thing as "My Natural Rights" - "Liberty comes from having a choice" you tell that to a starving HIV child in Africa whose parents have just been killed - natural rights - what codswallop. Liberty and Rights ONLY come from compassion - something American's will have to learn the hard way. Reply Waffler, Smith 1/25/10 Ken you should read the Biblical story of the Prodigal Son.He was somebody because his father was somebody, and he returned home to his father and to his fathers wealth. Well we are a RICH country and if government and society ran things equitably, fairly there is sufficient for all to have a good life. Reply E Archer, NYC 1/26/10 I read recently that the Bible does not declare any inalienable rights but it does declare inalienable duties. Either you believe in the Rights of Man or you don't. If you don't then you are declaring that no one is responsible for their own actions but everyone is responsible for everybody else's actions. Talk about codswallop. AIDS babies, RBE? Give me a break, man! There is an abundance of compassion in the world. The purpose of republican government is to protect the self-evident rights of man, not to trade them for compassion from government. Let real people give what they can give. Perhaps the most compassionate thing to do would have been to kill people with AIDS so that they do not spread the disease to their babies. If not, then how about taking some g-d responsibility. I will decide which AIDS babies I want to help -- sometimes people with incurable diseases die -- it's a tough break but the way it is. Let Nature do its job. Freedom starts with my own declaration that I am free -- then I have to live it! Reply Butterfingers, hun bch 1/28/10 Thank you E Archer! Too many people these days do not understand the basic concepts of self-responsiblity, self-reliance, and self-sufficiency. Once a man is efficient at caring for himself and his family, he is able and willing to aid those with less thru his church, community chest, or other charities. It is then freely given because as a nation the USA is a generous one...and has been generous all across the globe...even to countries with philosophies that differ from ours. Don't let this administration pull us apart. It is destroying us from within. We, as citizens, should be united in freedom and sovereignty. Our Rights are given to us by the blueprint called the US Constitution and Bill of Rights; it up to us to personally demand they be respected and put them to work.
