Anyone who donates money to TV evangelists, even if he" talks every morning to God", is being deceived. Atrocities happen daily around the Globe in the name of God.

Don't you just love it when a politician with a hare brained bill says that " the people demand it". When will voters learn that the only thing that 90% of politicians want is to be reelected. Maybe 99%.

Can't add much to what Mike said except to say that Obama care is a perfect example of the second sentence of the quote. The "state" is requiring people to buy health insurance with thousands of IRS agents hired to enforce it. As Woodrow Wilson once said, "Government, in it's final analysis, is organized Force".

I am a former religious fundamentalist. We, in our Bible church, were always taught to believe, never to question or think for ourselves. We never questioned that an invisible man in the sky was making a list and checking it twice to see if you were being naughty or nice. Oh, I forgot, every single word in the Bible was inspired by God, well, maybe not. The God of the Old Testament was pretty cranky at times. Maybe He went to anger management classes before the New Testament was written, maybe not.

What the heck is "true religion" anyway? All religions are man made, including Christianity. Some are worse than others and Islam comes to mind. Catholicism has a real checkered past with Popes selling indulgences and covering up recent horrific child molestation to protect the sorry reputation of the church.

We have come a long way from witch burning but not far enough. There are vestiges of this sorry time still abounding in many people. Why then would you have a War on Drugs that is ruining this country. Perhaps because people want to criminalize certain vices of which they don't approve. If cops find a few ounces of pot in your car, you lose your car, and maybe go to jail. This is insanity in a so called free country. We haven't yet gotten over those puritanical impulses from over 200 years ago.

I'm not sure "best" and "government" belong in the same sentence. As L. Neal Smith once said, government is a disease masquerading as it's own cure. A Thomas Paine quote, " Government in it's best state is but a necessary evil, in it's worse state, an intolerable one". Our government would have to improve to get up to worse.

A good example of the first line of this quote is the withholding tax. Withholding a portion of wages came about during WW2 in order to "pay for the war". It was due to end after the war. Unfortunately the politicians in Washington saw a way to bleed citizens a little at a time instead of making them pay the income tax in one lump sum on March 15th.( This was later changed to April 15th). If the one payment tax continued , most likely the income tax would have been scrapped when the people saw how much the government was robbing them. Better to take a little blood at each paycheck so the wage earners wouldn't notice.

Perpetual childhood is what our welfare programs are all about. The government is all about keeping a large number of people dependent on politicians, and they do a good job of it.

How very true. Remember, the Bill of Rights was established to protect citizens from the government.
