Needham quote The truth can cut like a knife which is why it is best tempered with love. Often enough the mobs can be ginned up into calling for the blood of anyone. Forget about the cause, inflict pain, dominate, 'resist' without knowing why — this is not uncommon. Interestingly, opinion can be labeled as 'violence' these days and being treated as such in courts of law. 2 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/14/18 re: Michel de Montaigne quote Unfortunately, politics IS the trade of lying, and the people are conditioned to it. The truth is not important, only appearances. We 'buy' the person with the best act. Nothing but gangsters dressed as lawyers — professional liars. Who says crime doesn't pay?(!!) Reply E Archer, NYC Mike, Norwalk (8/13/18) And repeating the lie over and over will eventually yield some converts. i.e. man-made climate change, Trump-Russia collusion, WTC building 7, false flags of all sorts, fake news (propaganda). The professional liars (journalists and politicians) have started to lose their monopolistic hold on 'news' and the traditional facade of equanimity and professionalism has fallen to reveal the petty and bigoted opinions now being treated as 'news.' Good liars are becoming harder and harder to find. ;-) Reply E Archer, NYC jim k, Austin (8/13/18) Hillary is a prolific liar, not an exceptionally good liar (like Bill). When the liar starts believing her own lies, the delusion becomes only too apparent to everyone else. Putting on an act is one thing, believing it is another. 1 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/13/18 re: Groucho Marx quote There's no way to answer that question honestly. ;-) I'm surprised CNN hasn't asked Trump that question yet. 1 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/13/18 re: Bertrand Russell quote Political correctness turns the public into police. How has freedom of speech and tolerance birthed political correctness? Where is the 'right' to not be offended in the Bill of Rights? How come the only way to get elected to office is via deceit and lies?If the people could read the politicians' thoughts, they'd be strung up quick. 3 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/13/18 re: Albert Einstein quote The constant push for more 'education' has resulted in a society of parrots that simply repeat verbatim what they have been conditioned to say. Rather than teaching students how to reason and discern, they are taught to memorize and repeat. No need to question, the answers are supplied en masse, no questions needed. Questions get you sent to the principal's office. 2 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/10/18 re: Mark Van Doren quote Because fiction is more popular and profitable. The truth is free and abundant (everywhere) thus, from a marketing stand-point, of little commercial value. Only now in a sea of untruth is truth scarce, and a tremendous threat to the racket. A lie exposed has no more power or appeal. I suppose the quote is most true in colleges and universities. 1 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/10/18 re: Jerome K. Jerome quote Unfortunately, too many politicians have mastered the art of lying that it has become the modus operandi of the government. The Clinton Machine comes to mind. 2 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/10/18 re: H. Jackson Brown, Jr. quote I've done a lot of travelling in my life, combine that with truth-seeking, and one cannot escape the realization that the destination is the 'way' not the end. Seek truth? Speak truthfully. Seek happiness? Be happy. Why do I journey? Where am I going? To be lost is to not know why I journey or where I am headed. From my stand point, it is the tune one carries with them, not the chorus waiting at the end of the rainbow. For those that love the journey as much as the end, happiness is theirs. ;-) 1 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/10/18 re: Bill Copeland quote One of Nature's Laws. ;-) 5 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/9/18 re: William Kingdon Clifford quote The enemies of Freedom are those that acquiesce to servitude in exchange for (a little) security. 3 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/9/18 re: Immanuel Kant quote Putting that theory into practice is what it is all about. 5 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/9/18 re: H. Jackson Brown, Jr. quote Is this so hard to comprehend for the do-gooders, social justice warriors, and religionists? What part of Liberty do they not understand? 2 Reply E Archer, NYC Robert, Somewhere in the USA (8/8/18) The truth need only be spoken, but forgetting the truth can have consequences... Reply E Archer, NYC Robert, Somewhere in the USA (8/8/18) The guru sitting on the mountain is as free to get up as he was when he sat down. Reply E Archer, NYC Robert, Somewhere in the USA (8/8/18) I believe you are confusing the meaning of the word Freedom with Power. Of course no one is free from needing food and water. That is the premise behind the assertion that all are dependent upon Nature's God, our Freedom is within the bounds of the world itself, the Laws of Nature. We are creatures of the Sun and cannot live without it.If you do not believe you are free or ever could be, then you must not believe in free will — how can you separate the two? I would think being born gay, scorned by many, that you do believe you should be free to live your life in accordance with your own conscience and are willing to grant the same to others — sounds like a freedom lover to me. ;-)As for your philosophical imagining of freedom as without any borders, being one with the cosmos, without identity, emerged in the mass, it sounds like drowning to me. I find it difficult that you equate individual personality, mind, family, home, community, state somehow proves how un-free we are. This is collectivist groupthink from my perspective. 2 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/8/18 re: Max Muller quote Fits the mainstream media cartel perfectly. 1 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/8/18 re: Junius quote Politicians need human misery. ... Government’s a disease masquerading as its own cure. ~ L. Neil Smith 3 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/8/18 re: John Fiske quote "[T]he disposition of man to domineer over his fellow creatures" is THE fundamental danger to Liberty. Public education has become nothing short of conditioning youth to authoritarianism so that they will not pose a significant threat. Intimidation, theft, censorship & propaganda are the core tenets to be protected and used against the populace which seem to never be permitted to grow up. Private businesses enforce 'speech codes' as a condition of employment and even force people into 're-education centers' for re-training thought. Socialism is corporatism, if anyone has ever looked to see how a free nation is transformed into the socialist ideal. Socialism is where the wealthiest and most powerful destroy their competition and monopolize all trade. The 'pitch' is that it is for the common good, but in the end the super rich have merely protected their dominion and conned the people out of their power. 1 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/7/18 re: Lord Byron quote That has been my motto since a child. Will I ever be permitted to live my life without asking permission? The mob can never be enlightened, they act on base passions only. Giving in to mob mentality is a roller coaster with no end. 21Reply E Archer, NYC dick, fort worth (8/7/18) Fascism IS socialism, dick. And that is the type of government the US has been adopting since FDR. Fascism is on the Left — while it may be considered 'right' of communism, they are both Leftist, authoritarian, and totalitarian. Antifa is communist with fascist leanings, straight out of the leftist playbook. Remember that NAZI's were the National Socialist Democratic Workers Party — Democrats essentially. What were some of the national policies of these social democrats? Eugenics — like Planned Parenthood and it's founder — which not only sterilized and aborted, but also rounded up 'inferiors' for destruction. Ministry of Propaganda — you know, the 'intelligence community' working hand-in-hand with the government controlled press. Militaristic — how many Democrat presidents have embroiled the US into war? Actually both political parties have been co-opted by the socialists such that the very premise of government has been transformed into a caretaker of the People. There are no non-socialist parties any more. What is Right does not even have a coalition — they are branded as 'extremists,' 'radicals,' 'deniers.'Remember, it's the Truth that sets one free — is that on the Left or the Right? How about the Center! 2 Reply E Archer, NYC 8/7/18 re: Lord Acton quote While freedom may be inherited by those that have not labored for it, it must be maintained by the beneficiaries if it is to continue. The word "privilege" has become popular today, which perhaps attempts to bring attention to an unconscious entitlement to special treatment based upon race or sex. Without having to struggle for freedom, the 'entitled' struggle for a greater share of the treasury and special rules to favor them over their 'privileged' peers. They do not struggle for Freedom, they struggle for better conditions of their servitude. Freedom must ever defend itself — it is not a privilege, it is a responsibility.
