Everyone should be responsible for (king of) their own castle. Under socialism, government is king of your castle, and they grant you a little less every year. It won't be nuclear war but Yellowstone blowing its cork that destroys our world, and when it blows this country will collapse under its own weight, destroying the country, killing millions, who will cry for their impotent government to do something. As with New Orleans after Katrina, you'll have to take care of yourself or die ... rather like Armageddon.

We are "compelled" to comply with housing codes, which vary greatly, under penalty of law. An auto is not a bare necessity, but those on welfare would say we owe them one. 2,400 sq ft is a mansion for a welfare family, but not even bare necessity for the affluent. The affluent are entitled to the fruits of their labor, yet you don't want them enjoying their fruit because they are destroying the planet? People are NOT "entitled" to a decent place to live, healthcare, food, etc., relying on others to provide them, but they may earn them for themselves. Protection from without is gov't responsibility, protection from within is your responsibility, which is why there is the Second Amendment.

Socialism just doesn't work. There is no need to keep any gov't services, they are better served by private companies. Health care would cost a fraction, you'd have money to spend or invest without SS or income taxes. Those relying on charity would be forced to work for a living since nobody would give them a big screen TV and SUV. Gov't could NOT afford to arm, let alone invade, Afghanistan or Iraq, or keep troops in Germany, Japan, etc.

I'd say "Ask not what your country can do for you, and let them not ask me for anything." People shouldn't be looking for handouts, and the government shouldn't be giving them. Not to the people in this country, and not to the people of other countries.
