This demand opposes every, every current reality in our public schools. Speaking from inside the classroom of a public school, many adults believe in the policies described, but cannot enforce them, as there are no (and I really mean "no") consequences. At my last school assignment, the principle made it clear that the American flag and the pledge were not necessary, nor encouraged. In the school before that, one teacher attempted to to instill the "Black National Anthem". In my current school, no child fails, regardless of progress.
