Hornberger quote Mike, please don't taunt the psychotics. Who knows what they'll do next. They might nationalize....well, let's see...what's left? Mussolini, the prototypical Fascist, was a Communist before he became convinced international socialism would never work. He then "Progressed" in his thinking that only national socialism could work. National Socialism....now, where have I heard that term before? I'm almost expecting Waffler, dick, anonymous from R, et. al. to start goose stepping at any moment. 25Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/31/10 re: Sinclair Lewis quote Well, I suppose you should expect hatred of patriotism and religion from an early 20th century Progressive Fascist. What better way to divert attention from your own totalitarian tendencies than to project them onto the enemies that stand in your way of subjugating the individual and elevating the State. It's a classic tactic and one we still see almost everyday by the left. In fact Fascism will come wrapped in the guise of benevolence and caring for the poor and downtrodden, using the power of the State to redistribute wealth and to nationalize industry, banking, and health care for the good of the people. Sound familiar? 1 Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/30/10 re: The Prisoner quote You know why they haven't brought it back Archer. They don't want to remind us that all we are to them is a number. 2 Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/30/10 re: Doug Bandow quote Robin Hood stole the unlawfully collected taxes from King John and his Shire Reeves and gave it back to the people from whom it was taxed. Now that's a little justice I wouldn't mind seeing make a comeback. Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/27/10 re: Sebastian Franck quote The world "hopes" for "change." Unfortunately, sometimes it gets it. 3 Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/27/10 re: Noel Coward quote I suppose if you have a habit of being deceitful an honest man really is a slap in the face. It makes the deceitful man face the truth that it is not necessary to lie to be successful in this world. In fact the honest life is the easy life. Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/27/10 re: Niccolo Machiavelli quote The deceivers only have the power because we give it to them and won't take it back. If we take power away from them we have to take the truth that comes with it. 2 Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/24/10 re: Alan Bullock quote Hope....change....dope....chains.... Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/18/10 re: Alexis de Tocqueville quote If it weren't for "progressives" we might actually still be free. We wouldn't be slaves to a fiat currency, a "progressive" tax on work and talent, a social security Ponzi scheme that is on the verge of collapse, and professional beggars who take government handouts made up of stolen goods. Be very afraid of government "compassion" because it's compassion comes from the barrel of a gun. 4 Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/18/10 re: H. L. Mencken quote You should have included Waffler, Mike. 2 Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/16/10 re: Robert A. Heinlein quote Those who want to control others remind me of those petulant, snot-nosed, tattle tales and hall monitors we all knew as children. They are small, petty, and envious. They would destroy everyone around them to inflate their own self esteem. They are bullies one and all. We all know how to take care of bullies though, don't we? 1 Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/16/10 re: Robert A. Heinlein quote Thank you, Albert. I think Canadians and Americans alike have forgotten our founding, core principles. We have become lazy in our prosperity while the enemy has been slowly chipping away at the walls. The principle that you have the right to speak your mind, think your thoughts, and practice your religion has been under attack in Canada and the USA. Your generation fought your battles long ago, now we have to fight ours. I appreciate your example. 2 Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/16/10 re: Marcus Tullius Cicero quote Exactly, J Carlton. Swords are somewhat more potent than threats. Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/16/10 re: Heywood Broun quote Tin whistles and raised right hands are really all that supports any law. Without the consent of the governed all it takes is a collective realization of the people that an unwanted law is unenforceable, and it will cease to exist. Tin whistles and hands will be trampled under foot and no one can stop it. To Carol, how do you know now that your pilot or doctor are not under the influence of drugs? Pilots can be seen sitting in airport bars and doctors have access to any number of powerful mind altering drugs. The thing is, a drunk pilot or a stoned doctor is still a rarity. Responsible people will be responsible; the irresponsible will continue to be irresponsible. Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/12/10 re: Norbert Wiener quote Progressives only give us the possibility of future restrictions. They don't have much else to offer (unless you're one of the chosen few of course). 11Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/12/10 re: M. Robin D'Antan quote On the other hand a natural life may not be the utopia many people expect; physical labor means 16 hours a day in a coal mine, and the kinship and village mentality mean just another crowded slum, with lives that are "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short." 2 Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/12/10 re: Lester Frank Ward quote Lester Ward, Waffler, and Hitler all seem to have the same opinion on education. I sure that's just a coincidence though. Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/6/10 re: Judge Robert Bork quote It's a great place to do business unless you're a little girl with a lemonade stand. Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/6/10 re: Lord Byron quote I wish it was true that freedom is inevitable even though often temporarily set back. The fact is the natural and undesirable state of man in this world is that he will be a slave. It takes a constant battle against the natural state of slavery to remain free and it is not a battle that most will take up. Nature is what man was put in this world to rise above. It's too bad we don't. Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/5/10 re: Judge Robert Bork quote For more than a century loud, obnoxious "progressives" have been trying to shackle us through regulation. Normal people don't like confrontation, so little by little, they get away with it until we live in an absurd world where lemonade stands can draw the same fine as driving drunk. Now that's progress! Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/5/10 re: Judge Robert Bork quote In other news a 7 year old child learns about government regulation...."Portland Lemonade Stand Runs Into Health Inspectors, Needs $120 License To Operate." "...Julie was careful about making the lemonade, cleaning her hands with hand sanitizer, using a scoop for the bagged ice and keeping everything covered when it wasn't in use, Fife said. After 20 minutes, a "lady with a clipboard" came over and asked for their license. When Fife explained they didn't have one, the woman told them they would need to leave or possibly face a $500 fine. That's when business really picked up -- and two inspectors came back, Fife said. Julie started crying, while her mother packed up and others confronted the inspectors." See here. Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 8/5/10 re: Judge Robert Bork quote My grandparents would have thought you were delusional if I told them I couldn't burn trash in a barrel. They would have thought I was insane if I told them they had to get permission from the government to use water out of their own well. If I told them they couldn't use their land for any purpose within 500 feet of a stream, they would have looked at me like I was from another planet. There is no end to regulation of the smallest use of your own property. If you want to know how regulation has choked each and every one of us, just read the federal register. Look at the administrative authority of EPA, OSHA, BATF, HUD, DOE, the other DOE, and on and on ad nauseum. I'm surprised they haven't run out of letters for the regulatory alphabet soup. I happen to remain free for now. As far as the sins of my fathers, I think that those poor, hill folk of the Appalachians never owned any slaves. In fact there is an old family story that they headed for the hills to avoid the war between the Democrats and the Republicans (as they called them). They just didn't have a dog in that fight. Of course the armies in blue and the armies in gray still came to their farms, stole their food, and mistreated their women. As for Voltaire, that was my point: the church and government were one, and equally corrupt in their collusion. 2 Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 7/30/10 re: Roger Levian quote The fault lies with the corrupt individuals who created the system and the technology. The tools and the process are not builders of a faulty house, it is the carpenter. Previous 25 Next 25 SaveOk2 Share on Facebook Tweet Email Print
