The only Democrats today are called Republicans. What passes itself as Democrat today would have been called Communist fifty years ago.

Sometimes the facts justify fear, and fear can be a useful motivator to solve the problem. Fear can either be a useful tool to you, or you can become the useful tool of the fear.

The most terrible thing about the quest for truth is that you just might not find it, even when it is right in front of your nose. Willfully disregarding the truth while convincing yourself that you seek it.

Human perfection is a very fleeting thing. It always seems to be just within reach, but never can be grasped. It seems some here still believe in the natural goodness of humanity and that human beings can perfect themselves eventually. All of human history would say otherwise.

Actually, Waffler, republic comes from "res pulica" (literally "the public thing"). It means the rule of the people, whatever form that may take-direct democracy, representative democracy, or even an elected monarch. A constitutional republic is the rule of the people on a contractual basis (the constitution) which spells out the rules of the government, ours being a representative government. I have actually read a good case for a monarchistic form of government. In a monarchy the ruler has to finance his foreign wars out of his own property. He also wants to preserve his wealth for his heirs. In a democracy, since public funds are held in common, everyone is out to get as much for themselves as possible, as soon as possible. There is no thought for the future. There are no heirs and even if there were the majority would take the wealth for themselves through inheritance taxes.

This is the perfect brief synopsis of 20th century history (and perhaps the 21st as well).

Those who are so arrogant that they believe they can save humanity will always end up as tyrants, stealing freedom of self-determination away from those they say they want to save. Humanity cannot be saved. Individual human beings can be saved and not by nosy dictators.

How convenient for the State that manhood is now reviled. That eliminates the rebellion against injustice.

If everyone is equally corrupt, is it corruption at all? If everyone breaks a law, it becomes no law at all. It becomes business as usual. That is what the moral relativist would suppose. However, in the real world there is right and wrong, and there is a price to be paid for choosing corruption even if everyone else is as well.

The natural human condition is corruption. Human beings, however, have the ability to rise above their nature. That is what separates us from the animals (if we choose to to be separate). It is easy to be corrupt. It takes constant work to choose a nobler path. The reward for that work is liberty.

I would much rather have anyone say any damn thing they please. It makes it so much easier to identify the fools among us. Now that I think about it, that may be the whole point of political correctness-to protect the fools.

What we have today is closest to Mussolini's syndicalist corporatism, i.e. Fascism; and Fascism is nationalist socialism as opposed to international socialism (Marxism). Corporations are privately owned, but government directs production and labor relations through regulation, inflation, and "incentives" in tax policy. We have not been a true capitalist society for a long time. It is interesting that socialists are so unhappy with their own system, however. They just don't want to accept responsibility for the terrible system they advocate.

Is it the oligopoly of media corporations that causes the uniformity of opinion in that business (yes, it is a business-not a calling), or is it the almost absolute lock Sorelian and Marxist thought has on journalism schools everywhere in the country? I think you'll find the so-called journalists are completely brainwashed long before the find a paying job.

It is often impossible not to be breaking a law. Environmental laws in particular conflict with each other such that if you obey one law, you instantly break another.

The more dependent the people, the more corrupt the state.

If you think that, Waffler, you might want to find out how many people China, Russia, and Turkey have murdered. Even so, dying at your own hand is not the same as having death imposed on you by a government. I wonder what happens to all of those Pro-Choice people when the choice involves something they don't like. As for government and tobacco, I find it hypocritical and immoral that government makes a significant income in taxes from a product it purports to discouraged its citizens from using.

When you ask government to provide for you like a parent, expect to be treated like a child. Expect to have things prohibited. Expect to be told what to do, when and how to do it. Expect to be told what you can eat and drink and how much. If you don't do what you're told, expect to be grounded.
