Must have seen the pathetic future of the two institutions coming. Wonder if it would have surprised him how bad they have become.

We have a reasonable ability to correct the over stepping of the government. The problem is the courts. Most all of the damage done to the constitution was done by the courts. When the government ignores the constitution it is one thing but when the courts redefine the constitution THAT is nothing less than treason. The number one problem we have in our government is that our elected representatives will not stand up to the court and impeach those in the courts that want to tear up the constitution.

Walter E. Williams has the best ability to speak to the economic issues of any one I have ever heard. He does it with out ever making it sound complicated. If you listen to the liberal economists you will hear a long line of gibberish that you would find complicated and difficult. I assure you it is intentional. Those people value politics over everything and the creation of poverty for political purposes is at the center of the politics of the left.

What the hell are you talking about Waffler? I said nothing about the intelligence of any one then or now in my comment. I said the system should be privatized for those that wanted it that way. The stupid could stay in the federal version but I guarantee you sooner or later the laggers would figure it out that the money going to Washington would be better off invested. Your world of beggars and starving people is what the left is working to bring about you fool. What the hell do you think welfare recipients are? Government handouts make cripples out of those it pretends to help. If the government cut off welfare right now the result would be that 90% of those percipients would, within one year, admit that it was the best thing that could have happened to them. We are a compassionate people and it is time that we show some compassion to the poor and let them improve their position in life instead of holding them under the governments thumb just so they will vote for the Dems.

We can only dream of endless Reagans in office. Oh if it could only be true. Quote is only stating the obvious.

Waffler the 80's so called tax break for the rich resulted in the rich paying a much larger share of the federal income tax than any time in previous history. Many of the "rich" were furious because most of the loophole that were being use to reduce the amount of taxable income were discontinued in lieu of reduced rates. The result was that the average tax paid by the top 10% of income earners went from about 7% of their gross to over 20% of their gross. Many had their tax bill triple. It also helped the Dems claim that the rich got richer because the tax returns showed almost all of the top earners income when before most of the income was deducted leaving only a small fraction taxable. So on paper the rich had a big increase in income when they were not making any more. The 80's were a big improvement for every income level but mostly lower income levels. The so called tax cuts for the rich made it so that it was more profitable to earn more money running your business the way it should be ran than running it to evade the tax man. That is the number one reason the economy boomed and the tax dollars rolled into Washington at a record rate. Need to do it again big time in order to help pay off some of this debt.

Who knows what he thought they were afraid of. Mostly their imaginations would be the only rational conclusion. Conspiracy theories are for fools. Especially banking ones.

warren, olathe

Guess he didn't think of destroying them with promises of freebies from the government. That is clearly far worse.

warren, olathe

Yep its the truth. Don't see any way to dispute it.

Good funny quote. Commercial produced hemp has no drug uses. You can smoke it all day and nothing will happen. No better than banana peels or oregano. The argument you make E. Archer is disjointed and specious. Put down that joint when trying to reason. You will find it will help.

warren, olathe

Just another quote from a nut job. I am not all that concerned about people wanting to smoke pot. However reading this quote from a pot smoker tends to make one more concerned. Did you know that an opinion poll was taken of drug users on the legalization of drugs? The result was almost unanimously against the legalization of all drugs when users of "hardâ–  drugs were poled, but among pot smokers the pole showed the vast majority were for legalization of all drugs even though they did not care to use them personaly. This is proof positive that marijuana alters the brain functions of its users. My own limited experience has found that when someone is for the total legalization of drug use that person is usually a pot smoker. You have never made more sense about any thing Waffler you are 100% right on this.

warren, olathe

Dang Waffler I agree with you again.

warren, olathe

Quote is correct but the sentiment that it implies as applied to today is absurd.

warren, olathe

StanLee, South Dakota well said. It is the conflict between ideology and reality isn't it? The quote is dead on in philosophy but in reality it has some problems in application. We must give both their due. You can not say that we must let a person foul up their life by robbing banks now can you.

warren, olathe

Definite blithering stupidity. You are right Mike. Government only is authorized by the constitution to intervene when it is in the public interest. The quote is idiotic.

warren, olathe

So did the US Joe. You can legislate anything you want. You should say that you can't make any body behave. Then you would be correct.

Interesting since he planed to start working towards making alcohol illegal after the war mess was cleaned up. His death postponed it for 55 years. I wonder what prohibition he was referring to.

warren, olathe

Notice the.... That means he could have had allot deleted. We can read that fragment of a quote to suit our prejudices quite nicely. I guarantee you marijuana lowers your resistance to suggestion especially when it comes to sex. That definitely gives you a higher risk for contracting aids. No responsible way to rate this quote without knowing what it actually was.

warren, olathe

Good example of what kind of ignorance was thought to be Intellectual thought. What may we think 60 years from now about what is thought today about our perceived problems? I guarantee you we will look foolish on many things that we now hold to be true.

warren, olathe

Destroy the educational system and you destroy the ability to self govern. Our system indoctrinates.

warren, olathe

IT was the 60's Waffler. I know because I was one. It was dead in the 70's. It was a terrible idea (flower children drug culture) in the first place. Prohibition was not that bad of an idea but it caused more trouble than it was worth. Same argument can be made with the drug laws but the use is so much more devastating on an individual level. Legalizing them would bring drug use problems up to the level of alcohol in numbers which would make drug use a bigger problem in this country than alcohol. I am not against responsible use of anything. Unfortunately we are more and more a society of irresponsible people. Can't rate the quote because I have no idea what he is talking about.

warren, olathe

In spirit I agree with the legalization of drugs but it has proven in countries that have tried it to be a disaster. Addiction sky rocketed until they were made illegal again. The damage to society would be devastating. It would not stop people from committing crimes in order to purchase them whether legal or not. May be less organized crime but more crime by drug seekers.

warren, olathe

Blithering stupidity.
