Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/20/11 re: Thomas Jefferson quote Mike, your comment in yesterdays quotes about democracy being two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner was really good. Sorry that I didn't have a chance to reply yesterday. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/20/11 re: Yvonne M. Conde quote Waffler must be joking, no one can be that stupid. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/20/11 re: Thomas Jefferson quote If the nut cases in the Brady bunch and Obama have their way, the people in the U.S. will be disarmed. 3 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/20/11 re: Richard Henry Lee quote The last line of the quote says it all, or nearly all. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/19/11 re: Yvonne M. Conde quote When Fidel was taking over Cuba, the New york Times was calling him an agrarian reformer. That's a code phrase for brutal dictator. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/19/11 re: Justice Hugo L. Black quote I'm with Mike on this. 2 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/18/11 re: Marisa Manley quote Nixon tried wage and price controls and it resulted in shortages of nearly everything and was a disaster to the nations economy. Rent control is a good example and always results in shortages of housing. Alcohol and drug prohibition is, and has always been, a disaster, creating more problems and solving none. 2 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/15/11 re: Jorge Batille quote This is long over due. Drug prohibition has led to more grief than anything since Nixon set uo the DEA 41 years ago. And from this monstrosity was spawned the asset forfeiture laws that allow police to routinely steal private property without even charging anyone with a crime. Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, LEAP.cc, was founded by a former state trooper who became an undercover drug cop when Nixon started his drug war in 1970. He later saw the harm being done and founded LEAP. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/13/11 re: Judge James Paine quote This so called war on drugs is the worst thing going on in this country since 1970. We have Nixon to thank for this atrocity Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/12/11 re: David B. Kopel quote I have a friend who would agree to this statement but would still oppose legalization. Go figure. This monstrosity known as the war on drugs is one of the worst things that has ever happened to this country. Check out LEAP.cc on the web. "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers". 1 Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/7/11 re: Gov. Tim Pawlenty quote Hey, maybe the reason that spending increases is because the folk in Washington are not real good at math. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/6/11 re: James Madison quote Bryan, you said it better than I ever could. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/6/11 re: Col. Allen West quote Reston, when someone is truly in need through no fault of their own, we should help them. However, we have a huge group of people in this country who love this victim role and won't take resposibility to improve their situation. Case in point, we have over 40 million people on food stamps in this land where opportunity abounds. I volunteer in a program to aid the homeless and at least 30% of these people could do better and should not be on the street. They get to many freebies to bother looking for work. Reply jim k, Austin, Tx 7/5/11 re: Michael Bloomberg quote From a man who presided over a city which is now up to it's eyeballs in debt. As to "a compelling public interest", that's a joke. The hacks in Washington try to convince us that every hairbrained scheme they come up with is done because of a compelling public interest.
