Pity Switzland didn't use them in WWII. Go Reston, Dick, and Logan (even the stupid recognize each other) This is a report from the US Department of Justice: • Firearms are more often involved in violent crimes in the United States than in England. According to 1996 police statistics, firearms were used in 68% of U.S. murders but 7% of English murders, and 41% of U.S. robberies but 5% of English robberies. I hope the US Dept of Justice is a reliable source? Have a great day...

I agree conjecture has been the food of most evil - yes Editor the comment is worth considering (sometimes) but alas the chasm is too great between the opposing parties to gather any meaningful dialogue.

A Gun Magazine - OK E that's a good source. Well done Reston and Simon - it does prove one thing, people who like guns and the GOP have a lot of time to spare. Are they blind to the fact it is them who need to change the water - enough of all this name slogging; the fact remains while we have guns we will NEVER attain the spiritual existence require to promote peace in the world - it shall always be revenge and that never solves anything but makes matters worse. Though we have made a start in the process of banning guns; we don't allow guns into court rooms, on aircraft, at schools and most work places. The need to carry a gun is because everyone else does, duh. Gandhi won over his country without guns and so can we but we are afraid to let go of our blanket...

It is true, our shadows are still on the walls of the cave...

I believe if Samuel Adams knew the arsenal available to the general public, he would not have made that statement... Well, Liberty Quotes Editor, you certainly stirred the pot...

We must start somewhere and be a leader not sit back and use mindless dialogue and call each other names – its exactly those name callers that shouldn’t have guns, and Reston well done for your brave words - its amazing Americans do not know their own history - notably and mostly, only innocent leaders and great men have been killed by the idiot with a gun. You say if they need them they find them - well this may be true but while we have this mind-set we’ll never move off the plate. If you think Guns make a political statement and keep you safe then you are a long way from the seventh parallel – there will be a few who forfeit their lives in this cause but if you put a person behind bars for carrying a gun (ten years should do it), in addition to any crime they commit, things will change. As for the Government – well, I can’t think of two many civilized countries (if you consider America civilized) that have found it necessary to rise up with guns against its leaders. Let’s be brave fellow countrymen and follow the leadership of a great politician Dianne Feinstein and ban guns, but do it with conviction...

George, if only you lived another ten years or more... How do we start thinking for ourselves? How do we start thinking, period..? I talked about Bertrand Russell recently with regard to atheism, he is also responsible for writing his version of the Ten Commandments (go to google and type his name and Ten Commandments) which I believe would of changed society to a more responsible individual. If perhaps we followed his version we may, just may, have kept up with technology; at present, intellectually, we are so far behind we may never come close to catching up. There are small pockets in society that make the attempt but alas are suppressed by popular opinion. Well done Terry, a great retort.

Well done Terry you saved me the job...

Yes, but we never learn. As long as we are safe and the effects of supression do not personally interupt our lives we allow it to go on - but, one day, the bell will ring for you...

Excellent Terry I couldn't have said it any better...

This is becoming interesting, please keep this chat going as I can see some real value in this discussion - I'm stll checking the Mormons and "The Ancient Law of Liberty" no luck so far. Lastly, reality is what you make of it what ever that may be - if you are a liar then you are a liar it doesn't matter if you think you are not. Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, etc., are but names of religous groups, in general the tenents of those groups follow their own code. A code that is accepted by the vast majority of that group must be considered its way??? It's that path which is then judged not what the path you think yourself to be on. If you are considered a liar by the vast majority then not all the tea in China will make you not a liar. Plato's form is this to a tee - the absolute has no diviation. Its pure thats why we exist as we are not.

Give me an Athiest any day over organized religion - though I am agnostic I prefer the company of athiests as they are usually more tolerent and understanding of others differences - a good book to read is by Bertrand Russell "Why I am not a Christian" also Russell-Einstein Manifesto. And, Logan, yes, we live in a state where the word free means is closer than most to its true meaning - the word free is totally subjective and as such denies definition. As for Constantine didn't he destroy the true gospels??? and I wouldn't say that during Christ's time, and before, government was not ruled by religous dogma - it wasn't Christian dogma but certainly others Anyway, well done Logan.

neither statement is worthy of a reply

How could anyone think otherwise... now, now... The Government ("we the people") is never right when it is wrong - the day we don't believe this is the day we switch out the light.

Robert, Sarasota

yes, yes, yes when will we learn this simple rule

Robert, Sarasota

Excellent Anonymous but now you see the dilemma - do you think we stand a chance against this kind of undercurrent? or should we just switch off the light...

Read Lord Acton for more on this subject - this my dear friends is why a liberal education is paramount with regards to our continued existence. Those who think liberal is a dirty word need to go back to school and look it up the the dictionary.(not the modern version)

Those who make no noise have no fear until one day they fart.

sorry, I forgot to add a last note: - the rich are already dumb.
