Auberon Herbert Quote

Socialist bribes those on welfare to remain on welfare, taking the hard earned money of taxpayers, without needing to produce anything.

I'm not Catholic, nor do I believe in Catholicism or that it is denigrating, while socialism is at its best, denigrating. Catholicism is a belief of choice while socialism is a religion that imprisons all that are within its political, economic, physical, etc. venue, believer or not.

All I can say about this quote is......yeah.In other words, yes.

Socialism is not the most efficient economic system in the world but it is the most humanitarian. Its role, though minor, in our capitalist system has been absolutely necessary for the success this country has realized. Many who abhor it don't realize they profit from it. How many would favor eliminating Social Security, the 40-hour week, child labor laws, public libraries, etc.,etc.? Christians should realize more than anyone else that their Christ could only be described as Socialist in his actions and thought. Does anyone think he would favor capitalism?

David L. Rosenthal

Dick: Karl Marx wrote: My objective in life is to dethrone God and destroy capitalism. HE ALSO WROTE: The meaning of peace is the absence of opposition to socialism. Marx was a sociopath, as are those who follow him. What you call socialism did not invent compassionate sharing with the needy. You are mistaken beyond all recognition.

Well said, Dick.

E Archer, LOL, I think you oppsed. I think the Christ would favor capitalism (individuals being able to be charitable, one to another), I am in favor of eliminating Social Security, public libraries existed in Judeo/Christian societies outside Socialism, child labor laws are a Christian concept, and a 40 hour work week are sovereigns united, negotiating economic affairs. I guess Dick's comments are just another socialist's atempt to call good evil / evil good and fain claim something that is foreign to socialism Thank you and well said David.

Socialism is a parasite that produces "nothing". It removes all motivation, innovation responsibility and reward. Like Cancer it slowly kills everything it touches. It is an evil form of mass control..

A lady came in to Austin about 25 years ago and was interviewed on radio. She was running for president on the Socialist Party ticket. She enumerated all the wonderful things that would happen if she was elected. The interviewer asked what would be done if the citizens didn't want what she had to offer. Her answer was quite revealing, she said they would be FORCED to accept it by whatever means necessary. That's Socialism.

The Socialiists don't bother to run a candidate anymore since the Republicrats have given them almost everything they wanted anyway.

Waffler, Smith

Only the Christian Heaven is socialist. A place where everyone's needs are met, water runs free and love and peace abounds. On earth manipulation, suffering, pain and greed is what we should stive for and accept. Social-ism moves towards doing things together, capital-ism moves towards doing things individually. The two are like matter and anti-matter and never actually meet and touch each other for they would then blow up. Society between these two evils is the best.

I wasn't referring to Christ, Mike, I was referring to Catholicism which for a millennia imprisoned, tortured, and murdered millions of 'unbelievers' -- not very Christ-like if you ask me. The Nazis (socialists) did the same thing. Fear of retribution for disobedience to the church or state is the driving force behind totalitarianism. Christ's example is one of courage to stand up for what you believe in -- and has been the justification for many bold acts throughout history both good and bad. Socialism creates a pyramid of power resulting in leaders that assume god-like powers -- that is why it is so popular, the quest for more and more power is intoxicating. Socialism and Catholicism promote brotherhood and equality among the masses while creating incredibly powerful hierarchies of power over which they rule the common man FOR PROFIT and power. PROMISES are the commodities of both in exchange for our very real lives, labors, and properties. BTW, ever notice that the word capitalism is a word used by communists? There was no talk of capitalism prior to Marx. America is not a 'capitalist' nation -- it is a free nation which protects the individual's right to produce, trade, and hold their own property -- this is an equal right, not just for the rich. Look at socialism's past: it has eliminated the middle class and created an uber-rich class (bankers/lawyers) lording over an oppressed 'worker' class. Socialism's promises are empty promises -- and I am inclined to believe Catholicism's promises are no less empty.

King_Cotto, Notts

Is this about the ideal or what was made of it? Socialism as an idea is great. State socialism as it existed was as misanthropic as capitalism (which is not a system as such, is it). National socialism - what the Nazis had - again is not to be confused with Socialism. I reckon that Herbert was nothing but one of the rather common British upperclass that feared for their waning empire. Marx a sociopath? Wow.

King, you must have been educated at a government seminary. Socialism is: any of various economic, political and religious theories advocating collective or governmental ownership of all property and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods. When socialism is implemented on ethical or moral concepts, it is at least a theocracy. Socialism as a whole has differing methods of administration; by example: Corporatism, or as coined by Mussolini "fascism", the collective or government owns all property and controls the means of production and distribution by and through self-extensions recognized as corporations. The State defines how the corporation is created and runs while, maintaining equitable ownership. In communism, the State owns everything and fulfills administrations in its own name. Nazi Germany was indeed a socialist state.

If he was alive today I would debate him but he is not so the subject is mute; for the issue is far too great to discuss on a one day blog.

Socialism is for bee hives where there are few mindless workers and lots of drones to stroke the queen.

Do any of the marxists in here know how one would calculate prices in the socialist commonwealth? How do you make sure the central planners are benevolent rulers who dont take advantage of their positions of power, or how do you plan on having a planned economy without central planners? Once you figure those out and make sure your little utopian experiment is completely voluntary then Im all for you going off and forming communes. But the moral problem with socialism in all its forms comes down the the necessary use of force to make sure everyone goes along with the game plan. Until then enjoy the mass starvation and murder that tends to go along with any good socialist regime.

    Jim K, Austin

Back in the old Soviet Union the central planners always had "A Five Year Plan" for the economy. When it failed, as it always did, they would come up with another, even better five year plan. These always failed and the Soviet Union finally collapsed. So much for central planning.

Very interesting observation. Great disdain was held for those who would practice or indoctrinate their constituents upon the tits of corrupt lending and usury. Corruption begins in the home. Auberon Herbert embraced Classical Liberalism, political freedom with representative democracy, under "rule of law" and emphasizes Economic Freedom found in economic liberalism which is also called " Free Market Capitalism". A response to the Industrial Revolution in Europe and the United States. Notable " Individuals" whose ideas contributed to "Classical Liberalism" include, John Locke, Thomas Jefferson, Jean-Baptiste Say, Thomas Malthus, and David Ricardo. It Drew on the economics of Adam Smith and on a Belief In " Natural law", Utilitarianism, and Progress. Corruption within Old religious secs, also denominational religions, the off shoots of catholicism bear with them the chains of slavery, institutionalized. Therefore the "break" from the "church" had to be made. The dupe played not only upon Christians, but all those, with like mannered compassion's for giving and helping others. Waffler spews more rhetorical garbage, seeking to justify " legalized Plunder" through perverted practice of so-called law.
