Can anyone see what is going on in Texas. Now their making the kids attend public schools. They're making the mothers take job training and braking up the families. Of course they won't be able to get the sick #%$@* that have violated the young girls but they can kill the religion. Wake up America, it's the fascists and Nazis out in the open again. You're next.

Mussolini was talking about his ideal state like Mike talks about his ideal when every thing will be "clean", when we recognize his point of view. In America the public schools are the source of diversity and freedom. The kids come from all walks of life, ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds and thereby learn tolerance and understanding. In the private schools kids often wear uniforms and are marched this way and that and taught dogma. The public schools are a bulwark of freedom and democracy. They are not run by the "state" but by the people in their communities.

Earth to Waffler, the public schools are a bulwark of government indoctrination. Our public schools receive loads of money from the Feds and whoever finances the schools will be in control. The "locals" will do what the Feds say in order to get the dough. Our public schools are a disaster. If our public schools are so great, then why do colleges have remedial reading classes ?

Private schools are dogmatic putting little children into uniforms, maybe not quite as dogmatic as home schooling which also suffers from the emotional baggage of the parent-teacher/child-student relationship. I have read Jim that Japaneese students achieve much better academic scores than do their American counterparts but the pressures of their regimented no nonsense system puts great strain upon their personalities and lives. Those that go on to college have already been promised a job by the big corporations and they mostly know everything after high school so when they go to college they just hang out and play tennis for four years. On the contrary the American kid who received a broader based and more relaxed education while in high school really takes off when they go to college if they want to, it is up to the individual. One analysis said that the American system creates more independent and self motivated people and thinkers.

Jim here is som financing data you might find useful. In 2000-2001 the Illinois public school system reports tht 52% of the funds came from Local Gov, 37% State, and 10% Feds. The total amount was $17 billion.

Waffler, top marks - they say if you wait long enough before judgment that judgment is no longer an issue - great statement, though I do wish they would include Ethics. Our Riverview High Schools in Sarasota has some of the brightness kids - I had a delegation for twenty different countries and the kids from that school nearly had every language covered. Booker High, another school in Sarasota has won many national awards in music and spelling. Public schools are not the problem we are.

Sorry, I forgot to add, our President went to a private college - I say no more

    Guess Who?

Yes,I agree that it is the state which educates it's citizens in civic virtue,to a degree,by means of the education system in this country but I disagree that it is the "state" which gives us a conciousness of our mission and wields us into unity.Rather,I believe it is Because of "the state" and it's policies that unite those seeking to change the state and it's policies, unifying the elements that will ultimately change the system.Hopefully for the beterment of all.

The State never ceases to lay claim to the responsibilities of its citizens. It means to render us powerless and dependent from cradle to grave.

above all things, safe guard your hearts (consciousness) They can steal everything that you own, and even kill your body, but never allow them to think for you. Learn how to think for yourself, and never loose that ability. Uniformity and conformity are the enemies of evolution.

    Ken, Allyn, WA

Who educates the State in civic virtue? Mussolini meant what every socialist means: that he is the State and, therefore, he is virtuous.

    Ele, Montana

I think Mussolini knew people and government better than we give him credit for. Government schools are government indocrination centers for government automatons. They don't teach, they train obedince to the state.
