And you can bet that the government program will cost a fortune and make mattera worse. Then the politicians will say that they just didn't spend enough on it and will appropriate more money.

For every natural law, there is a lawless government program opposing it.

While the Democrats are notorious for expanding government and thus government debt, the Republicans do the same despite all their promises to reduce the size of government. Typically, whenever a Congressman says they are reducing government spending they mean they are increasing government spending but at a lower rate of expansion because their constituents demanded cutting spending. There's nothing the government loves more than distress among the people -- that is why they create it.
