There is no other.” ~ Carl Schurz (1829-1906) German revolutionary, author, newspaper editor, journalist, Union Army general during US Civil War, first German-born U.S. Senator (MO-R) America , Character , Civil Rights , Conscience , Constitution , Equality , Freedom , Individual Rights , Integrity , Justice , Liberty , Patriotism , Republic , Respect , Responsibility , Tolerance Ratings and Comments Reply Anonymous 6/2/08 14Reply Waffler, Smith, Arkansas 6/2/08 Yes and the mentality that snears at or looks down upon their neighbors who may freely join together in groups or "collectives:is not free himself nor does he wish freedom for them. 2 Reply Daniel New, Hamilton County, Texas 6/2/08 Talk about a hypocrite!!! A Yankee general actually said that? Wow. Well, at least we see that he had what it took to become a Senator. 12Reply Anonymous, Reston, VA US 6/2/08 Little wonder that a man from Texas would fail to see that the slaves were denied there liberty and that is more important to correct than to protect the liberty of the slave holders to hold those slaves. 2 Reply Mike, Norwalk Anonymous, Reston, VA US 7/2/24 The "A" from Reston again promotes the prevalent Woke Theology's lying dogma. Each / every definition of liberty does not include any scenario or domain where a master / slave relationship exists. It almost amazes me how socialists need change the definition of words to fit their sick and twisted perversions. 7 Reply E Archer, NYC 6/2/08 Absolutely. Let it never be forgotten that a 'collective' has no more rights than an individual. Afterall, one's natural-born, inalienable rights may not ever be subject to vote. 5 stars for the truth in the quote, not the hypocrisy with which it was spoken. 5 Reply Mike, Norwalk 6/2/08 The truly free individual celebrates his neighbors liberty: in their right and ability to join together in any selective group or collective he/she may choose, and when they do not have to suffer under governmentally enforced compelled compliance, license, larceny (including theft of the laborer's fruit, theft by deception through fiat systems, and otherwise), victimless crimes, religious intolerance (such as is now occurring in Texas or otherwise), torture for information, etc. Reply RobertSRQ 6/2/08 4 Reply J Carlton, Calgary 6/2/08 "Collective Rights" is an oxymoron. If rights do not apply to all "Individuals" then they are not rights at all. In a society which is just and adheres to liberty for all we'd all have those rights. What happened to the (great) American experiment? I think I know... I think all those laws of control were passed while we were at the mall. Maybe it will come back when people become angry enough... 5 Reply Logan, Memphis, TN 6/3/08 I second Archer's remarks... Reply warren, olathe 6/8/08 3 Reply Ronw13, Oregon 10/6/16 To seek equality is never Liberty, but democracy cries equality, at the expense of the individual sovereign, and has sense the siege began. Life is not fair, chance happens to all. I will seek success at Liberty, but never with the conformity of corruption. Carl Schurz, a double tongued Jesuit ! 1 Reply Joe, Glasgow 10/6/16 You conflate the terms 'fairness' and 'equality' Ronw13, either conveniently or misguidedly. Equality in the eyes of the law; fairness in its distribution. Reply jim k, Austin 7/22/20 2 Reply Mike, Norwalk 7/22/20 A measure of liberty to all is when representatives represent individual sovereignty, inalienable rights and liberty of each and every, any and all persons at natural law. Such measured administration(s) is foreign to the occupying statist theocracy infesting this land, democracy, all forms of socialism and a totalitarian regime of force. Reply Fredrick William Sillik, Anytown 7/2/24 Yah, not enslaving others, rejecting the normal practiced "solutions" as is the conventional interest, would be quite prerequisite for your own freedom.
