Frank ZappaFrank Zappa, (1940-1993) American Musician

Frank Zappa Quote

“The illusion of freedom [in America] will continue as long as it’s profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.”

Such an accurate and scary depiction. Perceptions will be stripped naked with so few left understanding what the representative republic was all about Law needs be rediscovered so that freedom may replace the despots illusion.

What Zappa was referring to is explained in this Special Issue of The New American magazine! Concerned citizens MUST read this article!

This why rock stars need to stick with sheet music rather than reading the Declaration of Independence and Constitution.

As long as DEA goons can break down doors and the IRS is still in business, freedom will continue to be an illusion in the U.S.

J Carlton, Calgary

Frank Zappa was actually an amazing individual as weird as he was. And everybody should read the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. I have them on my ofice wall.

The Real Me Again

Interesting imagery. It seems to me that IF perception IS reality, then IF we change the way we percieve things, then the things we percieve will change.A novel idea wouldn't you say?

To change the way we perceive things means knowledge and education something the current administration is suppressing, and the reason is quite obvious - THE illusion of liberty, freedom and security - once the scenery has been removed you will have the culprits hiding behind the brick wall.

E Archer, NYC

The more things change, the more they remain the same. Just changing your view doesn't change facts. Yes, if I were a prisoner of war in a concentration camp, I could change my view to compensate for my loss of freedom -- "at least I am still alive, at least I still have my opinions and beliefs, and no one can take away my dignity" -- but that doesn't change the fact that I am a prisoner. Zappa was one righteous dude. ;-)

The man never said any thing serious. Any thing he says is irrelevant. I liked him, bought most of his records in the 60's + seventies. Decent joker. Extraordinary jazz musician. Wrote good silly songs. Not worth taking serious.

But that was 12 years ago. I bet he can see the wall now!

Waffler, Smith, Arkansas

First of all who the hell is they? Frank is obviously another covert conspiracy theorist. All things tend towards a norm, including ideas and opinions. If you find this tendency to be controlling or a conspiracy it does not matter, I don't think there is much we can do about the law of normativeisity (sic). Anyone can and should have their far left or far right views and this will be fed into the equation but normative will always rule.

I
was once under similar impressions as you Waffler.
Perhaps you really aren't interested in the facts. Many are happy in their little captive boxes their masters built and put them in.
But I'm not one of them and perhaps you aren't either.
If you are a truth-seeker, I invite you to debunk any and all statements of fact in the above article. If you can't — or won't  I win! You lose!

Hey! Just because Frank was a Groovy Rock Star doesn't make him automatically an idiot. Presumptively an idiot maybe, but he has effectively rebutted that presumption. He and a few others (Pink Floyd comes to mind) can see the bars of the cage we all live in and are unafraid to expose them.

LUCKY, Ground Zero and I repeat the planes were only seen on TV

Doug, Warren, Waffler, you all need to take a good look at what happened on 9/11 and since to get up to speed with the rest of the world.

As evidenced by Frank's unique compositions, he was aware of things most of us simply never see or understand...

I wish Frank was still with us. His insights and perspective were profound. Very few entertainers have the sensitivity and guts to speak real truth. I put him in the same category as George Carlin.

I have always loved this quote, but I would like to know where it came from. I have a good chunk of his albums and this quote doesn't appear in any of the liner notes. When and from where does this quote originate?

What a load of rubbish. Go live in Iran, China or any countries of the world where there's no freedom and see what it's like. Middle class intellectuals need to wake up to themselves and see the world as it is. Stop trying to make your lives more interesting by pretending there are conspiracies going on and actually do something to make the world a better place.

Tony, Turk'sCove

Lots of freedom in china Boris. Just live there a while. In my 6 years I did what I did at home, plus a lot more that is frowned on here, and never wanted for anything. Zappa is the best, I watch his viddies every now and then just so I won't forget.

Frank Zappa IS QUITE RIGHT! PNAC plus Urban Moving Systems PLUS a dumb down population equals THE DEATH OF THIS REPUBLIC, any fool who thinks free speech zones is normal. U R BLIND. The brick wall is evident. The fourth reich is america and EVIL IS THE NEW NORMAL. Zappa saw it coming. When corporations run the government that is fascism. Blind patriotism is treason! Keep sleeping, they are just getting started.

JM, Kingstree

He may or may not have been joking at the time he said this... but today, in our time, it is absolutely true. You'd have to be a member of the Flat Earth Society... or a Conservative Republican, to believe anything different.

Democracy and freedom is just an illusion. Frank Zappa nails this in a few sentences. He was sharp!

Freedom: One does not concern themselves with the offers of national freedom. There are no slave nations as there is no free nations.  The true sense of freedom is to realize and accept what is not real and what is real.  The individual is free as long as they understand reality. Again, there are no free nations there only the free enlightened individuals.

Fredrick William Sillik, Anytown

Correction: Again, there are no free nations, there are only those free enlightened individuals.

Freedom is: “The state of being free; liberty; self determination:” (Black’s Law Dictionary 1st Edition); “the power or liberty to order one's own actions” (Colins English Dictionary); “The ability to act at liberty.” (Webster’s Dictionary)

Liberty is: “The power of acting as one thinks fit, without any restraint or control, except from the laws of nature.” (Bouvier’s Law Dictionary) Liberty is the “exemption from extraneous control.  The power of the will, in its moral freedom, to follow the dictates of its unrestricted choice, and to direct the external acts of the individual without restraint, coercion, or control from other persons.  Liberty is the right which nature gives to all mankind of disposing of their persons and property after the manner they judge most consistent with their happiness, on condition of their acting within the limits of the law of nature, and so as not to interfere with an equal exercise of the same rights by other men.” (Black’s Law Dictionary 1st ed.). Clarifying original fact, natural law intent, and de jure jurisprudence: “Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law,' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.” (Thomas Jefferson) “The Natural Liberty of Man is to be free from any Superior Power on Earth, and not to be under the Will or Legislative Authority of Man, but to have only the Law of Nature for his Rule.” (John Locke - second most quoted source for creation of the Constitution) “Personal liberty, or the Right to enjoyment of life and liberty, is one of the fundamental or natural Rights, which has been protected by its inclusion as a guarantee in the various constitutions, which is not derived from, or dependent on, the U.S. Constitution, which may not be submitted to a vote and may not depend on the outcome of an election. It is one of the most sacred and valuable Rights, as sacred as the Right to private property ⋯ and is regarded as inalienable.” (16 C.J.S., Constitutional Law, Sect.202, p.987). Liberty, under “the laws of nature and of nature’s God” (Declaration of Independence) – natural law, is the state of exercising all inalienable rights. “All men are created equally free and independent, and have certain inherent rights, of which they cannot, by any compact, deprive or divest their posterity; among which are the enjoyment of life and liberty, with the means of acquiring and possessing property, and pursuing the obtaining of happiness and safety.” (George Mason)

Putin mildly: You could have biggest palace in the biggest country and still be a slave to you own limited perspective.6

Fredrick William Sillik, Anytown

Mike, Norwalk, thanks for making my point. You always seem to!!

Fredrick William Sillik, Anytown

Additionally Mike, Norwalk, freedom would have to include the freedom from the obstacle and hindrances that you mentally ill children insist on. Mr Zappa correctly asserts you have no freedom. I'm sure he knew the definition. The point is like he said its an illusion with you. My point is you are not on the correct road to freedom. The typical individual of you convention appears to roam around free of manners and motals. This is not freedom to move in the direction of survival. To survive is the true freedom we must respect and achieve. How can we be free when we are all dead from your positively dispicable manners. You need to stop throwing your meaningness literary diatribes around, and ask how can I help you Mr Sillik in moving our country forward?

Fredrick William Sillik, Anytown

You Mike, Norwalk do not appear to concerned with morals.  Mr Fredrick William is concerned with morals and manners.

Fredrick William Sillik, Anytown

Any discussion by myself, Mike, Norwalk on the subject of  manners and morals, and you and your gangster representatives is responded with the middle finger by you and your gangster representatives.

Fredrick William Sillik, Anytown

Gangster mentality doesn't have to make much sense to get literally millions of gangsters to agree with you.  If the discussion doesn't grow and develop the gangster will agree with you. The gangster does not believe in education in the positive sense. If the discussion grows and develops you will have no gangster followers. Capital gang included or any other gang for that matter.

Fredrick William Sillik, Anytown

The misunderstanding stems from what freedom was Mr Zappa denied to say that freedom in America is an illusion?

Fredrick William Sillik, Anytown

Mike, Norwalk : I believe I've demonstrated the highest levels of clarity, originality, mental health and competence with the contributions I've shared with you and all the contributors to Liberty tree.ca

Fredrick William Sillik, Anytown

Mike, Norwalk: I am 61 years old and when you assert that I'm immature this would in my mind would also convey a sort of sickness. Being stuck in a childish state that the vast majority of the population clearly demonstrates with their inabilities to clearly, honestly, and sincerely  convey messages is to say I demonstrate the same typical mediocre abilities of everyone else is not true. I demonstrate the highest levels of maturity and adulthood that we are aware of.

Fredrick William Sillik, Anytown

Mike, Norwalk: You or the other contributors don't come anywhere near the clarity, originality, or competence I demonstrate time and time again. I'm not here to incur your hostility, I'm just stating the truth.

Fredrick, I don't know you or your abilities. My intent was never to be hostile but rather, to be blunt, clear and accurate. The immaturity you have demonstrated on these pages is less than mediocre. Your clarity and competence in redefining well established legal definitions, traditional concepts, and linguistically formed meanings also majorly speaks against even mediocre levels of maturity and adulthood. Age does not neccesarily bring about maturity and as to stating the truth, you may be stating your truth, you are usually NOT stating the truth.
