I can barely stand to watch them any more. It's a good quote, unless you see 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington' and understand the context. Reply Waffler, Smith, Arkansas 9/3/08 I think he means use it or lose it. Don't only worship the past fact of American liberty or freedom but practice it today. Reply jim k, austin 9/3/08 Jimmy Stewart was a bomber pilot in the 2nd world war and there was a lot of "propaganda" in most movies at that time. He was a patriotic American who joined up like many of the movie stars did, as well as ball players such as Ted Williams. These were a different breed of movie stars, unlike the Jane Fonda anti military types we see today. Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 9/3/08 "Buried in history books" is an apt description considering that history is rarely taught anymore. What passes for history today is too often merely PC propaganda that turns a blind eye to 'white, European' people and events (and focuses on relatively insignificant people and events), even though that same 'white, European' history is what shaped our lives, society, and government that we have today. It's almost like somebody doesn't want the common folk to know what liberty is. As for propaganda, most movies today are loaded with it as well. It's just not American propaganda anymore. Reply E Archer, NYC 9/3/08 We must exercise our rights if we want to keep them -- and to challange all those who claim power over us. Reply RobertSRQ 9/3/08 We talk and talk and talk - now is the time for a few good men to challenge those who claim power over us. We could start by impeaching Bush and his gang Reply Mike, Norwalk 9/3/08 Liberty and freedom are both buried in history, texts, and books. Current PC propaganda is void of language, concepts, ideas, codes, rules, statutes, and principles that would bring about or support liberty and freedom Reply jim k, austin 9/4/08 Exactly right, Mike.
