“Charity begins at home.”

Another pitiful excuse for utter selfishness.

It's becoming a bit clearer that this site has an agenda to promote. Has anyone received 'mailed' quotes that aren't in this vein yet? I haven't. I, of course, often rely on quotes from the pre-christian era in my evaluation of economic policy in the 21st century - ROFL!!!

The govt lays claim to our money to provide for us -- but are we not better guardians of our own well-being and better judges of whom deserve our charity? It is a classic.

Obviously Fort Worth is a hotbed of pitiful socialism. In my experience, living among the people in four different countries - if charity does not begin at home (i.e. the local community), the government steps in and` fouls up the whole idea with a gigantic 'welfare' bureacracy and kills off the whole concept of Christian charity. And humanity is worse off for it. As for relying upon "quotes from the pre-christian era" - I do think Publius Terentius Afer is from that era, so why not rely on his words?

To rate or comment on the quote, "charity" must first be defined, or at least have a some sense of understanding. Traditionally, charity is a derivative of the heart that manifests love and all else that benefits others. As to the quote, if one doesn't love self, spouse, children, parents (home) it is almost assured, that person is incapable of loving beyond that.
