Ekoorb, The de jure States united was to be a Republic based on nature's law. "Law", ensures individual sovereignty, inalienable rights and liberty. Democracy is a lawless whim of a majority. By example, attributed to Benjamin Franklin: Democracy is 2 wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for supper. Freedom is a well armed lamb contesting the vote. The further a person (individually and in concert) mentally, morally, etc. gets away from seeking rights and liberty at law, the more they rely on a majority's totalitarianism to stay the choking chaos. Thus the quote; The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.”

The best quote ever about elections. How do you think George W Bush got elected.

Steven, Maryland, United States

It is a biggest fallacy to assume people know what they are doing.

It's funny because it's true... sad.

Which is why we should teach our prospective voters (students) to THINK instead of just memorize information and use it to fill in bubbles on scantrons. Duh!

Just go out and talk to anyone about our nation and its history, most don't know a damn thing. It's our inability to to understand our past that keeps our future in jeopardy. Lest everyone forget that we broke from England so that we were not run by government and taxation without representation.

This is a great quote, and I’ll give it 5 stars, but Churchill also said, “… democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried”. I’ll go with the “Wisdom of the Crowd” over the wisdom of tyrants, kings, or philosophers.

Oh come on Skyhawk! Are you implying that Gore had a brain? Bush was proof twice that the voters in this country have at least some sense on occasion. And compared to what came just before and after him he seems to be a genius.

Everyone thinks they're above average. It just can't be so.

Right now I believe Ted Cruz to be the greatest, but will still have my doubts.

Indeed! ;-) Which is why not everything can be up for vote.

      Fredrick William Sillik, Anytown

Other than with advocates of democracy, you simply don't have conversations. Hustling Churchill touts are incapable of conversations. The advocate of democracy doesn't have a vote, the advocate has relevant sustainable facts and figures.

Sillik, I guess it is the socialistic style censorship that brings out your non conversing with anyone that is not an advocate of democracy. Socialism challenges individual sovereignty, inalienable rights and liberty at nature's law. Socialism, through its many denominations, creates censorship, illogical dialogue, pain, suffering, poverty, anger, violence, death, war and all else that is contrary to the nobility of man
