God given because rights have consequences promised by holy writ, expressed that man should protect them with organized govt. Nature's God. Mises covered the problem with modernists taking God out of the equation, ie Marx,

Don Lee, RENO

The DOI was put into mothballs in 1789 and should have been left there. We live under an express contract, Lockean in it's Bill of Rights and common law, Hobbesian in it's Civil Law. The DOI has been misrepresented since the Dred Scott Case.

Don Lee, RENO

Nope. You can't just lump all people and govt together as bad. The Bill of Rights is divine, the bureaucracies the left push are not. You have to dichotomy and be rational about it, and don't hook up with Rothbard's illogical feelings. The entire quote is a contradiction on liberty and justice.

Don Lee, Reno

No in today's leftism means oppression and not equality. A sad state of affairs and an indictment against modern education in public schools that preach anarchy in the same breath as big govt.

Don Lee, Reno

Spot on. Something is worse than the war for men that are free, and that is slavery

Don Lee, Reno

Mencken is self-loathing since we are the govt. This quote has nothing to do with liberty, rather it is nihilism in it's worst form..

Don Lee, Reno

You don't become free just because you say so, you are free when you obey Nature and Natures God.

Don Lee, Reno

There is no guarantees for freedom. The principles held sacred are not in the interest of the average politician. You believe providence is on your side, but God only sides with His natural laws and not man.

Don Lee, Reno

This is just a word salad, with no exact ethos, rather a nebulous collection of unorganized thought.

Don Lee, Reno

Spot on. The enlightenment period produced the best scholars.

Don Lee, Reno

Lame. Laws are only valid from Nature and Natures God. Those laws are followed by the greater man.

Don Lee, Reno

Christ said nothing less here then Lao. This is a natural law.

Don Lee, Reno

Lame. Work and toil give purpose, no matter what becomes of it. It's not future tense, but a present tense should one become depressed by expectations.

Don Lee, Reno

Lame. A true statesman learns from his mentors, his masters who understand the mysteries of govt. He has the duty to outmaneuver the tyrants and has nothing to learn from them but how not to be.

Don Lee, Reno

Shaw the not so liberty-loving socialist claims busybodies interfering in the lives of others is honorable. I wouldn't trade one anarchist living in the swamps of Lousiana for 1,000 of his so-called honorable men who cause damage on humankind.

Don Lee, Reno

Lame.French lame. Being that nature's laws have to be strictly followed or you are a slave to your own ego. Ya don't go down the road to proto Marxism with the ideas of French theory on liberty or you still are not free and never will be.

Don Lee, Reno

This is foundational to Marxism. The other is redistribution of wealth, ie violence and vandalism. Today's leftist cities are walking in the same footsteps and into oblivion. Stand aside and let them crash but defend your suburbs and rural areas, you have no other option.

Don Lee, RENO

Need is associated with survival. In times of peace without invasion, war and pandemics the quote is applicable. The author doesn't delve into the war man has on each other, our nations and on nature. War destroys capital, war diminishes our right's. It's a sad day when greed and consumerism overtakes are sensibilities as in the current cause of this pandemic.

Are you aware that Yankee shippers in Boston were the major slave traders and never gave a refund for what they did to those they duped into buying slaves. Calhoun saw the evil, why can't you?

Don Lee, RENO

Yes.. in 1847 the Communist Manifesto made envy popular and lead to our own Civil War on the pretense of egalitarian ideals. 600,000 of one nation who founded the greatest country lost their lives from what Holmes just described. Boycott anything published by Yankee aggressor's and their offspring the socialists.

Don Lee, RENO

The problem with socialism is the lack of knowledge those purporting the idea. Had dogmatism not existed it would be a fascinating experiment coupled with Bills Of Rights, Civil and Common Law.

Don Lee, RENO

He loved metaphysics and wrote about the ancient Greek Religions he adhered to. He was calling people like yourself into using them for the benefit of man.

Don Lee, RENO

calling a socialist a liberal is akin to calling fisherman a farmer

Don Lee, Reno

Lincoln was greatly influenced by Karl Marx and the egalitarians of his day. He quotes Lockean Federal equality while presiding over the Hobbesian Republic.  Yeah, that ship or equality sailed in 1789, maybe for the better. Secession is not degeneracy and saving a Union through a quasi proletarian army of east European immigrants. Nothing like a bit of Engels when he says Catholics and Foreigners. These are different parts of the same Anglo 4 cultures from the colonies, more like factions, and thou art an Athenian with your cosmopolitan way of view. Give Uncle Tom his gun. .
