They are definitely doing so but disassociate themselves from the label "socialism". I'm afraid it will not be long before they are proud to be a socialist and even a communist. More and more people are willing to give up their freedoms in favor of security--the illusion they get from a nanny state. Socialism and communism, like most forms of government have laudatory goals--but the reality falls short. Of course the USA was founded on freedom and personal responsibility. It's first two hundred years revealed flaws but the advancements made in this nation proved that capitalism and freedom, especially when combined with personal responsibility, is an ideal that indeed works!
