Capitalism, the principal by which we endeavor to better our selves and create a more comfortable life, combined with a Justice system should be the goal of every moral human. Conversely, majority rule is a dangerous farce when the majority is fairly brain washed by an agendized media to believe they are "entitled" to whatever they need.

Funny...neither is mine! :)

Juries should indeed be sitting in judgement of the system itself, not just the defendant.

J Carlton, Calgary

We lost our Judiciary to political ambition a long time ago. We no longer have even the semblance of a "Justice System"

"America: A nation of laws, badly written and randomly enforced." ~ Frank Zappa

We no longer have "Due Process" of anything other than the destruction of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Exactly right Mike. The USA has stepped up to fill the void left by the fall of Soviet Communism. The coming USSA will be the next great historical failure...and we can place the blame squarely on the ignorance of the average American Socialist and the banksters who will profit.

The truth of the quote has Police State written all over it.

Exactly right Mike. Now that America has been declared a "Battlefield in the War on Terror" all of the stated rights of the 5th Amendment are right out the window. Interestingly enough we've recently seen the greatest purchase of firearms and ammunition in US history by We The People. Looks like people are preparing to defend themselves from USA Inc.

jim they have the same definition of "volunteering" as Stalin did...at the point of a gun. ;-)

There are so many examples of coercive, manipulative Government in the Land of the Free....it's impossible to list them all. But it would include the tax code and almost the entire Law (not Justice) System we suffer. The quote is a good explanation of what most fail to see.

Gee Reston, wasn't it the Kenyan's administration that declared America a "Battleground in the War on Terror"? You are an unbelievable hypocrite.

By Laws or Municipal Laws are generally in conflict with Constitutional Law. Diminishing rights through minor usurpations seems to be the pattern.

Oddly the Bush Administration was as quick to legislate the Patriot Act in the wake of 911 just as the Hitler Regime was very quick to legislate the "Enabling Act" in the wake of the false flag Reichstag Fire. I guess the veracity of the statement depends on just who is trying to do what... But from a "We The People" point of view, the quote is simply good advice.

How strangely will the Tools of a Tyrant pervert the plain Meaning of Words! ~ Samuel Adams ...without a doubt large segments of We The People are disaffected with our own Government and its cronyist methods of operation.

And from our own back yard...“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

jim k, that would be pretty funny if it weren't so true.

Enter, the (anti) Patriot Act, the War on Terror, Security, Perpetual War...The Bill of Rights is no longer...You have NO rights. None.

Mike, Bastiat's "The Law" should be mandatory reading in High School. It would clarify as opposed to confuse young minds on the concept of justice.

Reston may be right in that it is all given away...to foreign banks, to foreign welfare nations, to foreign wars of intervention...and like that! And obviously Reston disagrees with the idea that contractors should be able to earn a profit, good communist that he is...

“Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place.” ― Frédéric Bastiat, The Law

Bastiat was one of the clearest most succinct minds that ever gave thought to the evils of socialism.

“But how is this legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime.” ― Frédéric Bastiat, The Law

To all who have expanded on the quote, Thank you for the insight. "Obsession and Preoccupation" being key words here.
