Y'all should learn to speak the English Lanuage. There's no "type-oh" (LOL; typeogrphical error?). Von Hayek's meaning is not unclear: The individual is only truly free when the chains of society's moores no longer bind them. That means being free from religious, ethnical or moral stygma with whitch any given society may casting.

Mike, if your reference is to your current health-care system; please, get down on your knees and thank god that Mr. Obama had the vision to give you a health-care option. If y'all are in one of the states that opted out, get your s#!t together and move to a state that gives you the best plan. You see, we had this in Canada for about 60 years, and the only problems we've had is when the insurance companies from the U S and A want to f#$k with it.

Wow, of course he's right. He's was also a letch, a drunk and a whore-monger; does it mattrer that Marrion Barry and Rob Ford smoked crack? No. If their public platforms buit a stronger society. Send all the rest of those people to jail for the same crimes because their intent was far less ingenuous. Yeah. LOL

just hold on; how did global climate change (which has been proven BTW) enter into a discussion on an informed society? Real scientific information needs to be broadcast so that we have an informed society. So that our children grow up knowing that evolution is real, that it is the reason that we and our world exists today. Yes, climate change occured in the past, but never in history of the earth has it occurred so rapidly and with such results that it can be undeniably related to human activity. Again scientific evidence provides this proof.

Anything the police do in public must and shall be public knowledge. Our home-grown gestapo here in Canada fought for years against having video recorders mandatory in their cruisers. Now and again they still malfunction, say during an arrest of aboriginals that are surreptitiously dropped off 20 miles out of town in - 40 F weather and freeze to death.

We are on the verge of making possession of small amounts a misdemeanor in Canada - at the Federal Level. This is going to be done by a Conservative Government; based on the recommendations of the Canadian Association of Police Chiefs. It's interesting to note that when any leniency regarding marijuana laws looms, the largest hew and cry comes from UCCO - Union of Canadian Correctional Officers. Why? Because marijuana laws are a blank cheque, a sure thing to bring more people into their system, virtually guaranteeing continued employment.

Great quote. But here's the larger question; why does the US and A feel that it needs to be the World's police? Stay out of other people's conflicts and MYOB. Truthfully I think it's just thinly veiled guise for expanding Imperialism.

Of course after things are completely screwed up, Canada gets to clean up the mess.

Ok; here's where the rubber hits the road. Corporations are not people. Corporations will not do anything outside of the structure of their profit formula. So, they must be forced to do the right thing (that being for the collective good of all) through legislation. For example; a pipeline corporation must br forced through legislation to perform routine mainenance on their pipeline. If not the pipeline will burst and soil other peoples property. Is this legislation an affront to this corporation's freedom? No, because without it we are all at risk. So corporations must be controlled because they can't be trusted to function outside of their profit formula.

Don't you all realize that Bastait wrote this "tongue-in-cheek. Like Swift's "A Modest Proposal". So, all this time and space you have expended is for naught. Grow up; those that "have" are responsable for those that "have not". For when you see these wreched creatures say to yourself; "There but for the grace of god go I." And stop and help if you are able.

Ok, here's a truth that puts the Right-wing into total denial: Global climate change is real.

Now you can't blame Obama for that.

The Fourth Estate; the news media; those that report and keep honest record. This quality is far more important in these times. Burke is speaking of the freedom that the press must have; to be unfettered by political, corporate or even social influence; something that is so painfully lacking in the modern press.

And never used drugs. Fired his whole band for using.

L. Hanson, Edmonton, Canada

Whenever the subject of more lenient drug laws arises amongst lawmakers the loudest hue and cry comes from the Prison industry. The drug laws as they exist are their ticket to job security. For the rest of us ; a burgeoning tax bill to support a failed system.

Just more conservative double-think. The assumption by the writer is that modern liberals could not drive those intelectual stakes, as they would be impailing themselves. This is, of course, laughable.

Great quote; The tragedy is that his actions and policies were those that allowed his fellow citizens to be enslaved by the corporations.

I'm ashamed of the fact that this guy is a Canadian. In the article he sideswipes the truth with nothing more than US and A propaganda. This guy is a conservative hack. Trickle-down was a lie that perpetuated the biggest con-job in the history of Western Civilization. We came through that ice storm because of our Collectivism, not in spite of it. Collectivism and a sense of community is what built Canada and will continue to strengthen us to weather all storms; natural or economic.

L. Hanson, Edmonton, Canada

Just bear in mind that this neo-collectivism that enslaves us now, demonstraed by the corporate olegarchy that controls every facet of our lives, that directs our politicians and dictates policy; is what is anhilating the individual in western society.

And we celebrate those entities; we wear their t-shirts, drink and eat their crap. And the government that we (supposedly) elected allow them to continually rape us...

L. Hanson, Edmonton, Canada

Galbraith nails it again. To admire and celebrate the wealthy, is more often a celebration of their crimes, than their toil or ingenuity. And to pattern our society after these criminals will only lead to it's destruction.

The five stars is for the quote. For the rest of you U-hauls; dig the s#!t out of your head and come back to life.

This is meerly a pathetic attempt to defend the retention of wealth and power in the hands of the few. If the flaws that Hoffer listed proliferate amongst the weak; they are rampant amongst the powerful. The US and A Republicans are demonstrating this perfectly; the very idea that the culture of fear, that they have worked so hard to entrench, will be slightly abated is unconscionable.

This is a terrible quote and has nothing to do with liberty.

Carlton: get your head out of your a##; and get out of my country.

This is why "true men", men of valour and honour, can only have one master.

Do a quick survey of your friends and family. If they don't aling with your beliefs then, for the sake of your health and sanity, abandon them and start anew.
