The majority cannot justifiably rule over the minority. Reply Publius 9/20/13 re: Jesus of Nazareth quote This is indeed a quote by the Christ. It is miscited; it is Matthew 7:15, not 7:5. And no one has ever spoken truer words. Reply Publius 7/16/13 re: Neal Knox quote A government that seeks to disarm its people is a government that fears its people. A government that fears its a people is a government that has wronged and/or disrespects its people. And no such government is fit to govern a free People. Reply Publius 7/16/13 re: Owen Fiss quote Ask yourself: "Has our government, our president, or even the media been neutral throughout the Zimmerman trial?" Seems to me that the president and states attorney have been flowing with the mob from the beginning; wanting to see Zimmerman hanged despite what a jury thinks. He was acquitted by the state of Florida so now the federal government is looking for a way to press charges. Tyranny in action my friends. Reply Publius 6/13/13 re: Calvin Coolidge quote Often man's ambition is misunderstood to be wealth. In reality, most of mankind wish only to be equal. In the past, Americans at the bottom of the social classes labored intensively to raise themselves to a point of equality with those of a higher class. However as time passed, Americans have found it much easier to bring the wealthy down to their level through the use of government and government programs. Each measure taken to steal from the rich and give to the poor has aggrandized government with greater power and removed the exercise of certain fundamental rights belonging to the People. It is sad that mankind would rather be equal in servitude than unequal in liberty. Reply Publius 6/11/13 re: Thomas Jefferson quote Archer has hit the nail on the head. As Ben Franklin once said,"The government passed by the convention is the best that can be created by man and it will for a time be a blessing to its people but like all governments before it will end in despotism. The people being so corrupt that they are in need of a despotic government." I'm paraphrasing as the exact wording slips from my aged mind. Reply Publius 5/28/13 re: Thomas Jefferson quote Mike... You have misunderstood what Jefferson meant by "necessities of society". He is not referring to socialism, totalitarianism or any other abusive form of government. In Jefferson's view society's only needs is for each person to respect and defend their fellow man's natural rights. All other necessities of life will naturally be taken care of as each individual strives for their own well being without trespassing against the rights of their neighbors. The laws (call them what you will) are enacted by consent of the governed to ensure this. Reply Publius 11/20/12 re: William Shakespeare quote Every society gets the government that it deserves. If your government oppresses you and your fellow countrymen, it is your right, your duty to throw off such government and establish new guards for your future security. If you are unwilling to do that than you deserve to live on your knees. So crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. 4 Reply Publius 11/20/12 re: Jefferson Davis quote The majority should not, nor should it ever rule. When the majority is in control it is not the compasionate act of a government, but rather the lack of a government. The mob rules; the minority is left powerless. Their liberty unprotected, their rights existant by the will of others and their lives as well as the lives of their children are sold to slavery. God gave the same rights to all. The many taking these from the few is as sinful as the few taking it from the many. It is the duty of every free man to defend his own rights as well as the rights of his fellow countryman. Because the act of allowing another's right to be forcefully removed is voluntarily giving up your own. "Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what is for dinner. This single word reminds us that liberty is ours, just as it was before man invented this necessary evil we call government. 1 Reply Publius 12/8/11 re: John Locke quote No Carlton... underline "original". Lee quote Anonymous, Cleveland, Tennessee...You know nothing of war. The Confederate Army didn't fight just because Lee told them to and they didn't surrender just because he told them too. They fought for their country, they fought for something they believed in. When Lee surrendered it was a mutual decision among all of them. If they had wished to keep fighting, they would have without Lee. If they wished to surrender earlier, they would have; not a single man, including Lee, could've stopped them. If George Washington and the rest of the founding fathers had the same mentality as you, we would still be British. Many times his Continental Army was in much worse conditions against more overwhelming odds than the Confederacy ever was. And please, site the source of this slave's quote; I doubt there is any truth in it. Reply Publius 8/18/11 re: Alexander Hamilton quote Jim... I have to add that Congress had no business in even questioning Roger Clemens in the first place. It is painful to think about how I paid taxes for the Congress to investigate the steroid use of a professional athlete rather than search for a solution to the national debt, social security, the wars, the economy, gas prices, etc. 2 Reply Publius 8/16/11 re: Friedrich August von Hayek quote Joel and Mike...I agree with you both. We will be locked in this battle of Good vs. evil until the Almighty sets us free. During this battle we may hold the high ground or be trapped in the coldest darkest ditch of humanity. The personal goodness of the individual and the overall goodness of a society decides the firmness of the ground in which they stand. This country is now treading merkier waters than it has in the past because our faith and reverence in God as well as our knowledge of Good and evil has faded as time unfolds. Mike, you speak of the government as being the group that accepts wrong as its norm. While you are right, you must remember that it was We the People who selected our governors. We have allowed ourselves to be fooled by the empty promises and fictional illustrations of a few self-ambitious individuals. We have refused to educate ourselves and accept the responsibility of supporting ourselves. We have voted to relinquish a number of our rights to the government at the pretence of it taking care of us. We wished to make a government hand-out the norm. The People were the beginning of the problem and We are also the beginning of the solution. If the People would educate themselves with respect to Right and wrong and accept their duty as free citizens, We could correct any problems in government. If we consult the Lord on all these matters, the smiles of Heaven will once again rain down on this land and We will be empowered with all that is required to beat off our oppressors. Reply Publius 8/12/11 re: Frank Chodorov quote Waffler...How much better is your life because a man walked on the moon? The Hoover Dam was built by a private company who through capitalism proved themselves to be the best entity to build it at the most reasonable price. The Panama Canal was done much the same way, by private companies for private interest. The Discovery of the New World was done by men who saw the opportunity to profit from the adventure. They proposed the idea to government. They sold the idea like capitalist. Pure capitalism is credited with: the assembly line, interchangable parts, the printing press, the radio, television, computer, telephone (cell phone and smart phone included), laser, automobiles, airplanes, microwave oven, the battery, and even electricity. State capitalism has given us more debt than we can ever pay. 2 Reply Publius 8/12/11 re: John Adams quote This is the foundation of liberty. 3 Reply Publius 7/28/11 re: B. Bruce-Briggs quote I am not scared of heights, but I'm not going to walk on the ledge of a skyscraper. I do not fear wild animals, but I'm not going to walk into a mother-bear's den. I do not fear gangs or drug dealers but I will not enter their territory alone and especially at night. I do not fear these things because I take adequate measures to protect myself from them. The same goes with tyranny and oppression. I fear neither of them because in this country I have certain instruments to protect my children and myself from them. The gun is one of many. It should indeed be the last resort; only used when no other tool would fix the problem. But that does not make it less important. It is possibly the most important because it stands a reminder to government officials that if they should somehow cut off the civil road to liberty We the People will take it by the sword. We have "certain inalienable rights" and if any "government becomes destructive of these ends" it is our right, our duty to "alter or abolish it and establish new guards for our future security." As long as we are properly armed we have no reason to fear such a government because we have the means to do away with it. Reply Publius 7/6/11 re: Thomas Jefferson quote Waffler...You truly are an arrogant idiot. In his infancy, Jefferson knew more about freedom, law, liberty, rights, responsibility, and justice than you ever will. He is a founding father, the author of the Declaration of Independence, this country would not be here without him; and you think you are wiser than he? I am sure that you have done nothing in your life that could even come close to giving you the ability to criticize his philosophies. Reply Publius 7/6/11 re: Michael Bloomberg quote This tyrant once authorized the NYPD to leave the city, going as far away as Arizona, and enforce NYC gun laws. His reasoning for completley leaving his jurisdiction in dust was that these other states protecting the right to bear arms is the cause of the crime in NYC so the only way to lower crime in NYC is to take guns from everyone everywhere. He completely dishonored his office and pursued power not given to him. Bloomberg is a tyrant completely ignorant of the true idea of liberty and the pure principles of justice.
