Reply Bryan Morton, Stuart, Florida 2/6/09 Congress: The opposite of progress. Reply Waffler, Smith, Arkansas 2/6/09 Not only cheap but just a game form when some of them do it. They twist words and meanings just to confuse and obfuscate. Now the Republicans are complaining that the current legislation under consideration is not a "stimulous package" but it is a "spending package". Obama got fired up and rightly so nailing the SOB's for this word twisting stupidity. Of course the stimulous is a spending package. All but the silly Repubs know it is one and the same thing. This quote maybe humourous but that is all, it is otherwise shallow and useless. Congress is suppose to talk. What would you rather have a dictator who simply acts. Reply Mike, Norwalk 2/6/09 Reply Bill, Cape Coral, Florida 2/6/09 Waffler, You may not like Republicans...however, if you can objectively look at the Bill in the Senate, you can see a tremendous amount of spending that will not stimulate the economy. Personally, I don't like the government too involved in any facet of our lives. Limited government is the ideal. However, we all realize that perception and confidence is what drives the economy. As long as people are afraid to spend, banks afraid to lend, etc. the businesses will continue to see sales drop and the economy will continue to contract. The downward spiral continues. If our Government can inject some spending to help stabilize the downward spiral and start talking positively about the economy, we can pull out of this mess. It doesn't matter if it were Bush telling us the sky was falling and they needed 700Billion to fix the banks or if it's Pelosi, Reid, and Obama saying the economy will crash if we don't spend this by tomorrow. BOTH SIDES ARE EITHER LYING OR IGNORANT! In Pelosi's case, I think STUPID is a better term. She's the one who "mis-spoke" not on just one, but several occasions where she told an audience of reporters that every month we don't act, 500 MILLION Americans lose their jobs. Gee Nancy, there are only 320 million "legal" Americans in the country! So, Waffler, maybe if everyone could forget their partisan alliances, forget the hatred and venom spewed to infect all of us from both sides, maybe we could all do what's best for the country. Remember, Congress and the President work for us. We are not their slaves! They can talk, should talk, but they should also listen--TO US! Current independent polls show that nearly 80% of Americans oppose this legislation. Big number? Don't you get even a little suspicious of anyone from Washington telling you the sky is falling? They've cried wolf too many times for me to start believeing them now. I think we need a whole lot more talking before we go into debt for nearly a TRILLION dollars--don't you? Reply jim k, austin 2/6/09 Waffler, I think that I have you figured out.You aren't as stupid as you sound, you are just puttig us all on. Reply tribbles, Shawnee 2/6/09 There is a reading and comprehension problem in Congress. When elementary students can read and interpret the Constitution and Congress can not..? ? Evidently it is a virus caught while studying for Juris Doctorate. Reply Mark, Buffalo, NY 2/6/09 It is frightening. This stimulus package is NOT only irresponsible, but constitutes generational theft! Reply Elisabeth, Astoria, NY 2/6/09 Stimulus is spending, but spending by whom? By the Government or by the people? Reply Waffler, Smith, Arkansas 2/7/09 Good stuff Bill, I fully agree that we have to be balanced and not partisan. As for your 80% however the news I heard reports the opposite saying that 70% are for it. And I may be wrong but have we actually reached 320 million by now. Population increase is one of our main problems. This stimulous and the TARP are nothing compared to what we have put into Iraq in the last 8 years, and some would say unnecessarily. Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 2/7/09 Waffler, you're about two weeks behind on those polling numbers. The more us lowly peasants learn about what is in it, the fewer of us that want it. As for spending stimulating the economy, it is not that there are not things to be bought, sold, built, or money to be borrowed or lent. It is that nobody believes what anyone else is saying. I believe Congress and the President are lying to me. I believe the purpose of the swindle-us package is to socially engineer even more of us into ever more compliant dependents who must beg their livelihood and existence from our political masters. By the way the swindle-us and TARP are approximately twice what has been spent on Iraq. Reply E Archer, NYC 2/8/09 Bill and Ken have it. Reply Bryan Morton, Stuart, Florida 2/9/09 Population increase is one of our main problems. As is always the case in socialist societies where the responsibility and cost of having children is abdicated to "society." It's easy to have eight kids when you don't have to pay for them. As for how much of our money the government spends on TARP Vs. empire, I'd say the correct answer is, "Who cares." Both represent expenditures of stolen money which will reap negative long term consequences. How many times does history have to repeat itself before we catch on?http://www.lewrockwell.com/bonner/bonner357.html http://mises.org/article.aspx?Id=1419 Reply Anonymous 2/9/09 Ken if you are right about a 100% swing or reversal in the polling numbers that it is really amazing. I'll google it. Reply Waffler, Smith 2/9/09 2 hours ago it was reported that 54% are for it! Reply Ken, Allyn, WA 2/9/09 http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/business/economic_stimulus_package/support_for_stimulus_package_falls_to_37Support for the economic recovery plan working its way through Congress has fallen again this week. For the first time, a plurality of voters nationwide oppose the $800-billion-plus plan. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 37% favor the legislation, 43% are opposed, and 20% are not sure. Two weeks ago, 45% supported the plan. Last week, 42% supported it. Opposition has grown from 34% two weeks ago to 39% last week and 43% today. Reply warren, olathe 2/16/09 A spending bill is not a stimulus bill. Dolt. How stupid can anyone be? Spending has never stimulated an economy because it has as much negative effect as positive. It does nothing but buy the votes of the intended recipients.
