Even as Love covers a multitude of sins, so does pride conceal a multitude of sins.

The cover-up implies a wrong-doing, and in and of itself would be wrong.  The penalty for lying can be greater than the action being lied about.  The lawyer's bread and butter — find any lie to use as evidence of being a liar, thus all else is discredited.
