“An efficient militia is authorized and contemplated by the Constitution and required by the spirit and safety of free government.”

We have no efficient militia, we have no more free government.

We need one now more than ever.

Putting complete trust in the government was never the intent of the Founders, quite the opposite really. It was understood that all Americans were citizen-soldiers, kings on their own land, and were to be ready for any usurpation. Another reason the federal government was to be restricted to the jurisdiction of Washington DC.

I would say this applies to the 2nd Amendment.
