Latin Proverb Quote

“Suum cuique [To each his own, to each according to his merits.]”

Ratings and Comments

E Archer, NYC

YES! Not the Marxist corruption, "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs." -- NO. "To each his own" - that is to say what is his, i.e. private property, "to each according to his merits." i.e. what he has earned/produced. In other words, 'you get out of it what you put into it," or "as you sow, so shall you reap," or "garbage in, garbage out." ;-)

Mike, Norwalk

With Archer, Suum cuique [To each his own, to each according to his merits.], as is diametrically opposed to Marxs From each according to his ability, to each according to his need rests upon the justice of the cause, and not upon technical grounds or religious morals (a should be). By way of clarification (to each his own): An individuals action(s) has its own consequences with a natural reward, commendation or otherwise.
