Dr. Ron Paul Quote

“Welfarism and excessive spending and deficits and socialism divide us, because everybody has to go to Washington. Those who have the biggest clout, those who are the best lobbyists, those who go and they grab. And whether it's the medical industrial complex, or the banking industry, or the military industrial complex, that's who ends up controlling our government... For so long, conservatives and constitutionalists have lost the argument, they lost the moral high ground. Because those who want to give things away, not talking about where they steal it from, but they want to give things and take care of people, they get the moral high ground and they come by as being compassionate. And we who believe in liberty, we lack compassion. But the truth is, there's only one compassionate system known to man, and that is freedom and personal responsibility, then there's enough wealth, and then we will all have personal responsibility to use this compassion that we have, first to take care of our families and friends and neighbors, and there would be so much wealth that we could spread this wealth around the world.”

Ron Paul is only fooling himself if he believes this.

Byron, Fort Collins, CO

I've met too many "compassionate" liberals, some of whom bragged about being communists. While they held forth, all I could think of was, you're lucky to live in a country where you can criticize the government (at least for now) and not fear being executed tomorrow. I also wondered exactly how long "compassionate" liberals would remain so if their privileges were taken away and they actually had to work with their hands.

Dr. Tom LaMar, Keeseville, NY

My take is that he is stating an ideal, rather like our 19 century America, where there were no real taxes, people often gave "full tithe" to churches and charities if they could, up to 10% in many cases, and a totally different sort of safety net was in place, deficient as it was compared to today's. Of course we'll never see his idea situation, even to the Libertarian freedom he reflects on, but does not totally follow. His call for personal responsibililty instead of entitlement is laudible, but I fear as I see many at the bottom reflect on this as being their modus operandi due to corporate welfare at the top, both trapping the middle/working classes in peonage as we are suffering with more and more. Added to that, the creation of money must be taken out of private hands, as the primary mission statement of the Federal Reserve has been a total failure, "allowing" inflation of over 95% and threatened to become even worse with "QE" disease. Does anyone honestly believe that the most productive country by far in the history of the world is totally broke into the trillions and how many generations hence due to honest debt generation...and a system that earned that ;money to "loan" to the government first? It is all a lie, as this type of fiat money always has been since the middle ages. Money created as debt is a lie plain and simple, let alone that which is then "loaned" to our government. And if the interest, so important to be paid is mostly given back to the treasury as some claim, then why is it so important to be paid in the first place? The pat answer is that "we owe it to ourselves", a misleading and condescending platitude of the super-rich usury class we all suffer under. The 29,000 pages just "released" by the Fed should show at least some culpability in these directions, but I await expert comment to whit; my degree is in the wrong sector to ultimately matter much.

Waffler, Smith

I think this man is crazy!

jim k, Austin,Tx

It's easy for a politician to be "compassionate" he's not spending his money, he's spending ours.

J Carlton, Calgary

You can not tax and spend your way to prosperity and you can not legislate morality. If you could, why would our nation be in a state of complete decline? Immoral "Liberal" policies will be the end of the United States unless the Constitution is reinforced. End the Federal Reserve, Restore the Republic. (And Waffler...you don't "think" at all)

jim k, Austin, Tx

Paul, as usual, is exactly right. As to his being "crazy", he's one of the very few members of congress that makes any sense. Republicans sometimes talk sense but they usually buddy up to their democrat pals and the country goes farther down the rat hole.

J Allen, Arlington, Va

Paul has been an outsider, representing people and ideas not more government, now more are learning that he was right all along.

cal, lewisville, tx

He describes Waffler perfectly. Be a DO-GOODER by using someone elses money.

Anonymous, Reston, VA, US

He can't even decide who he's upset with in this quote... either that or he believes that the business oriented lobby is pushing socialism. Seems he just wants to whine in this quote, while offering no constructive statements, hardly the characteristics of a good leader.

J Carlton, Calgary

The answers to statism and it's failures are obvious Reston...what do you need? A pop up picture book to figure it out?

E Archer, NYC

Dr. Tom is right -- debt as money is a con -- the more of it you have, the more the debt there is!! Every dollar in your pocket is a dollar OWED -- imagine that -- Waffler, couldn't grasp this if he tried. Yes, Compassion is an integral component to a fruitful society -- but compassion is a personal responsibility, not one that we pawn off to our government. Once the Fed was created and money turned 'inside-out' (that is, currency instead of representing real capital with intrinsic value was issued as promises to pay -- IOUs) and an unlimited credit line was given to Congress, the only thing the government does is buy votes -- and funnel trillions to government contractors. The government never needs to turn a profit, and since there is no way for us to prevent them from borrowing more than can ever be repaid, we have allowed them to destroy our economy. And this is and has been the plan ever since the inception of the Federal Reserve. Fascism was rising rapidly in Europe, England, and the US, and we haven't gotten rid of it yet. Yes, we have fascism, and the socialists want communism -- anyone crying out for liberty is considered 'crazy.' What is crazy is the most free and prosperous country in the world is being brought to its knees because of the ignorance of its citizens and the concerted effort by the money masters to rule the world at the Americans' expense. It is not the corporations that are evil, it is the money system that allows them to create debt-as-money that we all have to accept then default and require us to 'bail them out.' Let them fall, and everyone who is tied to this system so that we can all finally realize who the enemy is and remember "never again" when we put right the wrongs. The death penalty to all those who debase the currency -- that law is still on the books as well it should be -- time to start enforcing it.

MR Ronnie, How about all the senseless wars we the people have been forced to fund? We could help our own people grow to be self reliant and a tax payer. If we would just stop being the Policeman and Nation Builder of the World. What you are saying is stop helping the poor with basic living needs and give the rich more tax breaks.

cal, lewisville, tx

leo, do your research. Ron Paul voted against going into Iraq.

Mike, Norwalk

Those that would disagree with the here quote deserve the dictatorial statist theocracy that infests this nation and the horrible tribulation that is about to inflict all.

Ron Paul is a voluntaryist, the anarchist branch of the Libertarian Party. He says so. His voluntaryist supporters at the Mises Institute Say so. The caption to the video "Ron Paul is a Voluntaryist" reads: "In this video, using Ron Paul's own words from his books and interviews, it is shown that Ron Paul's goal is voluntaryism. He adopts limited-government positions and appeals to the U.S. Constitution as part of a long-term strategy for achieving a completely free society, absent any State." If you think he is trying to restore America to the Constitution and the Founding principles---think again. NOTHING could be further from the truth.

Yes, in evaluating this quote, what one might call a tirade. Its not a at substitutive, not at all coordinated, and sorry to say doesn't deliver one solid idea. And yes, if you want to be elected to an elected office of an electorate composing pretty much criminals with intense mental health problems, just stay this present nonthreatening messaging course. Socialism is the challenge of social abilities to create educational substantiality.

The mentally healthy want a more nonviolent path followed by our nation's citizens. And Dr. Paul, you and your electors, to assure this path, must come to terms with your one solution for everything, violence. The mentally healthy use nonviolent words and accompanying actions to make their path and I request that you join me on this nonviolent sane journey.

Dr Paul, it is clearly evident with this attributed effort you clearly don't have much faith in the power of words. This appears the national sentiment. A real spokesman get very little regard from what would be at best described as a social degenerate. The sick typical  firearms supporter gets more creditability then a heartfelt social responsibil

The sick typical firearms supporter gets more creditability than the heartfelt socially responsible individual with a heart. It takes a heart to have a heart.
