Only he knows how deeply 'ole Ben' really loved him in the end and maybe there was a reason beyond our understanding as to why God didn't choose to give Ben this particular revelation! Reply Paula, Grand Rapids, MI 1/22/08 re: Samuel Adams quote So how do we diffuse this knowledge and virtue among the people; what kind of an environment can be created and maintained that allows knowledge and virtue to thrive in a society that seems preoccupied with promoting stupidity, and attracting us to hardcore, vulgar, crass, and shocking behaviors that leave us blind, numb and void of any zeal for life or each other. The school's themes of virtue written on the school walls didn't do a thing to help my teenager's hope for a good, decent future in this world. His hopes, dreams and zeal for life get squashed out daily with low standardized curriculums, unionized teachers who don't care to teach, and academic coaches who don't care to coach, and principals and superintendents who just look the other way when part of the herd tries to actually hold them accountable for their education, telling them that's the way life is and stop expecting anything different. We have students telling parents how to behave and teachers behaving like adolescents. Perversity and greed are running rapid! Sorry for the negativity, but when they start zapping the zeal of our brightest young minds, it really gets me aggravated and it's happening in our schools under the pretense of just the opposite. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. quote I agree with the author; after all, look how long he and his efforts have been remembered and celebrated, as well as those of Gandhi, and of course, Jesus Christ! And since Mike decided to incorporate his political opinions in this forum, I'm voting for Huckabee! Reply Paula, Grand Rapids, MI 1/14/08 re: Mahatma Mohandas K. Tucker quote I find these quotes very depressing, probably because of the truth in them, can't we mix them up with some that speak of our strengths and how we have persevered too? 2 Reply Paula, Grand Rapids, MI 1/4/08 re: Viktor Frankl quote I showed this to my teenage son, who is in a phase of life where he could truly appreciate both the statement and the source of same.
