Charles Eliot Norton Quote

“The voice of protest, of warning, of appeal is never more needed than when the clamor of fife and drum, echoed by the press and too often by the pulpit, is bidding all men fall in and keep step and obey in silence the tyrannous word of command. Then, more than ever, it is the duty of the good citizen not to be silent.”

This is one of those quotes that should be printed on T shirts and sold. I would buy 2 or 3. An important message to all true patriots. This quote is appropriate today,in my opinion.

Anytime the press clamors for anything we should beware.

Dave, St. Louis

Never forget, the first objective of conquest is to control communications. The ultimate control is when we cannot communicate with our spouses. The pope, the press, the president, professors, preachers and teachers ALL have to lie and keep secrets with "government spending" being the most repeated lie and the best kept secret being the impossibility of paying taxes with dollar bills that the IRS said "are not dollars." The IRS (Imaginary Revenue Scum) cannot get money from you when all that you have in banks is numbers and our Marxist misleadrs have no need for money when all of us will risk our lives for more numbers. Americans are dying in Asia now, not for payment but just for more numbers. Our first objective should be to expose and discredit the perfidious press.

"I fear three newspapers more than 100,000 bayonetts" Napoleon Bonaparte

Ken, Allyn, WA

I don't believe I have ever heard the press clamor in my lifetime for the people to be silent unless they are in opposition to some socialistic idea.

Mike, Norwalk

Upon my soap box pulpit, amen.

Yes, the true patriots are the voices of dissent, they are the true heroes who risk their jobs and friendships.

200 million man march on DC, look at it this way, a day off work..........

It never ceases to amaze me how, as much as so-called intelligent men and women know that history repeats itself, we just go ahead and blunder into our future as if we were on a never-ending loop playing the same sorry scenes over and over. We are reliving exactly what we went through a hundred years ago, and they repeated what happened a hundred before them. When are we going to wake up as a society and demand excellence in our schools so that we can once again have an intelligent thinking electorate?

Spoken by a unionist of the north, siding with big money from Boston and the likes. An Elitist, of which I care nothing for him or his so-called contributions to society !! Bias of the conscience type, contrary to our founding form of Republicanism.

But is there not never no reason no-how to obey ? After all iks said and done, there ARE two sides to the Freedom coin: liberty lone one side and lawlessness / rebellion on the other: Both are a part of mankind's "freedom" and each has its place at one time or another: choose or let others choose.

Cryptic, but so well said, Define that which is the intention of ones heart, to convey a true love of life, liberty with dignity, freedom to defend a wholesome family unit, to say the least. This above all warms the hearth, and fire, to burn eternal within all of our natural calling.
