Eric Hoffer Quote

β€œThe central task of education is to implant a will and facility for learning; it should produce not learned but learning people. The truly human society is a learning society, where grandparents, parents, and children are students together.”

This is the most romantic idea of education ever written. This educational goal would produce not indoctrinated followers but free thinking leaders that always aspire to learn more and improve further. Such a society could overcome any obstacle, the sky is truly the limit. To produce a learning people - lifetime students - should be the ultimate goal of any educational system, anywhere in the world.

Byron, Fort Collins, CO

What a beautiful quotation--one of the best. However, in order to learn, we must first become humble. A learnING populace would be more alive, more varied, and more difficult to collectively manipulate. Only our individual arrogance, spawned by insecurity, stands in our way. Once we each learn to accept ourselves, humility and learning will follow!

The central task of education should be to teach people to think, something our public schools do not do.

Michael A. Church, Grenada

If only this ideal could be realized then every human being would experience unblemished respect from each other. It is then we would be able to proclaim to the heavens our songs of freedom. Michael A. Church

Got to keep learning.

The quote identifies but one reason why theocratic seminaries (government schools) so detest and are extremely antagonistic to home schooling.

Patrick Henry, Red Hill

It is in the etymology of the word education that the essence of the true character of education is revealed.

Education is derived from the Latin educare, the actual definition of which is: to lead out, to educe.

Most sublimely, education is constituted not of the inculcation of philosophies of education and of knowledge but of the conscientious cultivation, in actuality the eduction, of each individual's native interests and constitutional, Creator imparted, faculty for learning.

Robert, Somewhere in America

Now that I can agree and give five stars - learning is all about learning... not just passing tests.... that is why an holistic education is so important....

The infinite amount information we are challenged with supports this quote. Socialism is the challenge of social abilities to create.

Socialism is a challenge to noble / human abilities (independent, collective and social) and only creates pain, poverty, violence, and all else that is contrary to individual sovereignty, inalienable rights and liberty at nature's law.

Mike, Norwalk, my heart tells me what Socialism is, for that is the only legitimate historical source and resource. Socialism is the challenge of social abilities to create Socialism.

Sillik, talking about attempting to change definitions ;-) You mention at one time that is a dialectic process that brings you to a result of socialism. THEN, you mention your heart is the only legitimate historical source and reason for explaining / defining socialism. Reason, in a dialectic process is contrary to and out side the heart and other emotional input. Oops, your attempt at changing meanings failed again.

Mike, Norwalk

Sillik, hahahaha, lolololol β€” WHAT? Your heart lies to you. Your intellect and mouth are not legitimate historical sources or resources either. Socialism is a primary challenge to the noble human's abilities (individually and socially). I shake my lowered head, smiling almost audible β€” socialism does create more socialism. You might want to make a mark on your calendar, you got something right.
