George W. Bush Quote

“I don’t give a goddamn. I’m the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way. ... Stop throwing the Constitution in my face. It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”

~ George W. Bush

White House cabinet meeting to discuss the renewal of the Patriot Act, in response to GOP leaders presenting a valid case that the Patriot Act undermined the Constitution.

He swore to uphold the US Constitution, twice. He should be Impeached! This goes way beyond Bill having an affair with an internist.

Anonymous, sydney

i wonder why this is never blasted through the media... maybe because he controls it.

jenn, atlanta

I am beyond disgusted.

It is far past time for Congress to do their constitutional duties... Impeach!

I wish this were a true quote because I think Bush is our worst pretender ever but ... there seems no independent corroboration except those which quote CHBlue - so it seems a complete fabrication on their part. It's a shame really.

Mike, Norwalk

I really didn't know how to rate this quote. Five stars for such an accurate depiction and characterization of the man or a thumbs down for what he's done to the U.S. (including pushing through legislation that would pardon him and all his cronies for certain criminal acts performed under color of office)

If this quote is true and it's context is true then he should be treated as any other American who commits TREASON!!!!!

warren, olathe

This is so obviously not true. The press would have loved this and we would never have heard the end of it if it actually happened. Bush is probably one of the biggest protectors of the constitution in Washington. The powers of the president include such things as the patriot act and much more under times of special needs such as war, subversion, secession, ect. Notice in the description of the phony incident that it says that the Republicans were making a "valid case". This is the terminology used by someone that has an agenda not just reporting what happened. The person claiming this is true says he heard it third hand. This quote was published on a Republican/Bush hating piece of crap web page. This is beneath this site to put it in here or at least I thought so. Makes me wonder what I have read hear and thought was accurate that was not. Any one that knows much about Bush knows that a statement like this would be very unlikely.

Shoot first ask questions later is the seminal characterization of the "Bush The Worst" presidency. He should not be held accountable for anything he has ever said because he has no ability with the English language. He also speaks in jest at times. Condi and Ashcroft told the US terror experts to in effect "get lost" and ignored their information while the administration tried to renew the cold war with Russia since Condi's only strength was/is speaking Russian and playing classical Tchaikovsky. Because of Bush's early failures he may have overreacted to save face and appear strong to the American people and the world. He was right to go after terrorism even if belatedly and yes they made mistakes. Logan Wikipedia is just a start toward research and learning. You should give research and learning a try or at least a start.

The first thing that needs to happen is to repeal every law this President has created. Bushisms: http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/blbushisms.htm

John, San Antonio

I want it verified.

E Archer, NYC

The Nixon tapes in the Oval Office revealed similar language -- why are people surprised? The actions of this government certainly speak louder than words -- and this quote sums them up.

Logan, Memphis, TN

The Democrats/liberals/biased media wouldn't touch this quote with a 10 ft. pole, regardless of the truthfulness of it. If they were to throw this back at the President's face, they would then open the door for responded criticism for their own actions and support of those things that specifically violate the constitution. Those who actually watch more than just FAUXNews will also know that our two-party system is very hypocritical; each side won't unearth the other's secrets if the other side agrees to not unearth their's. As soon as a liberal or a media outlet would criticize this quote they would become just as vulnerable in retaliation as though they had said it themselves. Politics is a game in trying to sort out a convoluted puzzle; if something doesn't equal x, change your variables. Waffler, I actually chose to research and learn on Lexis/Nexis, the Scholarly Journal Archive (JSTOR), Social Science Citations Index (SSCI), Public Affairs Information Service (PAIS), thomas.loc.gov, freedomhouse.com, the CIA World Factbook, and a host of other scholarly and scientifically peer-reviewed databases, as opposed to some bastard trash wanna-be-a-legitimate-encyclopedia-website where the local-ignorant Joe Shmoe can paste whatever he wants and any village idiot will instantly agree with it. If you start with trash, the majority of times you'll end with trash. The best possible thing to get our of Wikipedia is social-bias and actual facts and dates of historical events--that's it. Wikipedia does little to nothing more than regurgitating popular trends, and does nothing to expound upon the substance of history. Because of the nature of who actually posts on Wikipedia, even the sources are most often bias and without merit. But enough about "wikiality," this isn't a thread about the "truthiness" of Wikipedia.

Logan, Memphis, TN

Oh, and by "actual facts" I mean that, for example, Napoleon was in one place one day and then he went to another place on another day; George W. Bush is the 43rd President of the United States of America; Henry Ford was responsible for advancing the assembly line; etc. Basically trivia questions that you'd want to write in a 3rd grade history assignment.

anon voter, georgetown

Hah, that's a laugh... I want a person in a stable state of mind to tell me to my face that George W. Bush controls the media. YEAH RIGHT. And that's why they chew him up and spit him out all the time... maybe they simply recognized that 1) it's not a totally reliable documentation. "Three witnesses"? Oh yeah, I can see it's set in stone. Really, there's little solid evidence of this. You don't think that Bush's enemies would love to throw some dirt on him? It's a possibility... And 2) everyone under that much stress, that little sleep, gets exasperated. And they make mistakes. Unfortunately for leaders today, we remember every little thing. But say it is true, and Bush DID say that, if he doesn't make a habit of expressing that sentiment, if this was the only one statement, we could surmise that he doesn't really mean it. Doesn't everyone say stupid stuff sometimes? And NONE of us can imagine the stress a president is put under. Anyways, I don't make a habit of believing bad reports unless it's firmly documented. Yes, even reports about the Clintons.

Judith, Corrales

For whomever wrote 'we should repeal all laws made by Bush,' you can be sure he has written much more dangerous Executive Orders which are determined as laws but have little exposure to the public in the media. If you donate money that has been determined to have activities that you did not know about that is considered by whomever, since there is no definition of terrorist, to be terrorist activity, you could have all your property confiscated by the government, and could be placed in jail, without protection of habeas corpus. Bush is the most frightening president we have ever had but then consider where his grandpa made his money. From laundering money for Hitler in a New York Bank. Bush is a traitor of the worst kind and should have been charged and thrown out of office years ago. But why hasn't he. That is one of the next most frightening things about him.

I wish I could say, "Unbelievable!" What is most troubling is that it has cost the lives of close to 4,000 troops in Iraq under the pretense of national security and we can't do a Goddamn thing about it.

It doesn't matter in the least if the statement is an accurately quote or not, it's definitely the attitude demonstrated by this president.

Goebbels would have been proud to have fabricated this quote.

sweetie4, Redondo Beach

Bush is just Stupid! He can't say this. This constitution was a wonderful thing it gave birth to our nation. If he doesn't respect it he wouldn't even be the stupid president right now!!!!!!!!!!

ashley, saginaw

Did he really say that?

Anonymous, Atlanta

Hmmm... I wonder why we haven't heard this before? The media would have had a field day with this quote! Besides, whatever else he is, I don't think Bush would be stupid enough to say something like that. As President of the United States? He HAS to know that saying something that adamant against the Constitution would come back to haunt him. Something doesn't seem right.

Patriot, Kingsport,Tennessee

I tend to agree with the concept that if he did say this, the anti-Bush media would have run it over and over for days after it happened.

That seems pretty dumb, even for Bush. Did he actually say this?

    Chris, Brooklyn, Ny

Why is it always according to "un-named sources" when the left is impuning the right.....print some freaking names for these sources, grow some balls, and then you can show disgust. If you accredit "unnamed sources" what you're really saying is you made the whole thing up. As far as Conservatives controlling the media...I don't know what kind of substances you're on but you have to have to stop using it because you've already lost what little mind you had.

    Stacie, Marshall, TX

I think this quote is complete fiction.

    Felix, Boston

President George W Bush is still one GREAT President of the United States of America! Don't blame him on Iraq war... your Senators voted for it!

    Jon, Home, WA

I think this should be carved into his headstone for it is the most perfect example of how he viewed his job/office and the people of this country. It's also obvious from this that W. never read the Constitution or he would have known it IS The Supreme Law of the Land, Article 6 which also covers the Oath he took. The people will wear the shame he brought upon all of us forever. Or it's just what we get for electing an idiot, twice.

      MJ, Burlington

I think this is typical of the baseless attacks on Bush. I went to the source noted above and found this: "The article that previously appeared under this URL has been removed from our database because a followup investigation revealed the sources quoted in the article did not, as they claimed, attend a White House meeting between President George W. Bush where we reported he called the Constitution a "god damned pieced of paper." Oh what a surprise!

      Bogus quote. Pretty cheap slander.

      Not buying it.

      RMW, Coram, NY

This is a false quote although we are missing him now that the current admin. and both houses of congress from both sides of the isle seem to get around or trash the Constitution whenever possible. It's time for them all to go and bring in people that mean what they say when they take an oath to uphold the Constitution.

      Anonymous, Dallas

I think this quote is greatness, he is fed up with terrorist's and had enough!! Unlike our new president who will butt screw America!! All of ya'll kiss my ass.

      warren, olathe

I easily pegged it for a lie when I first read it here. I looked it up and again it was obviously a baseless piece of propaganda. Now it has been confirmed to be made up. It is amazing how this stuff is so typical of the left but so few seem to ever catch on. Thankfully the press makes sure the right can't get away with the same thing. Too bad they do not do the left the same service. Of course if they did the left would fade away into oblivion because lies are all they ever have on their side.

      gopflame, Bedford, OH

In Texas they call that BULLSHIT. Hell any GOD Fearing American knows that is BULLSHIT. A good old fashioned lie.
