Samuel AdamsSamuel Adams, (1722-1803), was known as the "Father of the American Revolution."

Samuel Adams Quote

“The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men.”

Now is the time to inform our representatives that they are cheating us out of our freedom. We must remove them from office if they continue, putting into office those who will truly uphold the Constitution.

Yes Joe. We,The People, the citizens and posterity of the Founding Fathers of our blessed Constitution, in order to return the Government back to US, the Governed, Need to Come Together in dialogue and Heart to correct the mistakes of our past by making a better today for ourselves and a better tomorrow for our posterity. We owe it to them.

And the first to go must be the IRS, the source of their hidden power, the hammer with which they control us and engineer us, and the greatest threat to our personal privacy in the world.

Finally, Joe & I agree... impeach King George W! Sadly, the rodent from the underworld is confused as usual, thinking that the IRS is some evil control organization and seeing conspiracy where there is none...

'... false and designing men' -- that is something we should be paying more attention to rather than frisking everyone for bombs and guns. These false and designing men are among the richest and most powerful in the world and have over the decades deceptively monopolized our monetary and legal systems and twisted them beyond any boundaries erected by the Constitution. The pen is mightier than the sword -- and it is best we started defending ourselves against it as our rights are signed away.

Ken, Allyn, WA

It's much less risky to be a con man and cheat your way into a fortune than be an armed robber stealing your way to wealth. That is, of course, is why our esteemed politicians prefer to be grifters.

helorat, Milton

Hey Reston, the President is not a "representative", he is an executive. Joe makes no mention of the President, only the Congress, which is now controlled by the socialist party and has an even lower poll appproval then when the republicans controlled it and has less then half the positive rating of the President. Quit smoking what ever it is you are and wake up.

tonyd, Milton

helorat, what are you smoking? NOT a representative?! So the election was just for fun. He's NOT legislative you mean, right?

Thank god we have people like George Bush that thinks like Sam Adams and is willing to protect all that our forefathers fought and died for. If we were to impeach something it should be stupidity and ignorance.

Nonsense.  Bush ushered in the global police state with the Patriot Act under a state of national emergency which has never been lifted giving the Executive unlimited powers.  The right of habeus corpus is gone.  Emergency powers are what it is all about because then the Constitutions can just be put on hold.  Governors have been abusing that power all year in 2020 and continuing now into 2021.  The China virus lockdown is founded upon one of the greatest frauds perpetrated on Western civilization. CDC reports zero cases of the seasonal flu in South America for 2020, and the number of Covid cases match the previous year's flu numbers.  Nothing to see here...

I voted for Bush twice, but I now believe that he is just as much a part of the problem as all the rest of the government. These men and women have become focused on how government can better mankind. A laubible focus, but their vision is obscurred by modern beliefs of what government should do for the betterment of mankind. If they instead focused government on the intentions of our founding fathers they would adopt the mantra, " the government that governs less, it the government that governs best"

I was merely "surfing" when I came upon this page. Unfortunately, I am not in the right/proper frame of mind at this moment to respond effectively with respect to my thoughts/feeling regarding this quote by Mr. Samuel Adams. Perhaps I will revisit this page in the near future. In the meantime, I would simply say to all people, everywhere, "take great caution in placing your trust with those who you presume to have the protection of your freedoms and liberties as their priority." Due simply to my belief that anyone currently in that "position" is not truly worthy of that trust!

Samuael Adams was wholly correct to forewarn us, but alas, many American citizens have failed to heed Mr. Adams' warning over a period of many years, henceforth, we now have a socialist president.

I agree with the post "the IRS" must be the first to go. This is an attainable goal, more so even now due to our current economic climate. We absolutely remove this power from the fed. govt. and return it to the people, the rightful owners of this power. The 16th amendment must be repealed and HR 25 enacted. This will be the largest transfer of power back to the people in a very long time, and benefit the nation by allowing US jobs to return and welcoming business from other countries, and allow trillions of US dollars to remain in the states as opposed to offshore accts. My very next goal is passage of HR 450, the Enumerated Powers Act, forcing congress and the president to cite that section of the Constitution which supports any and all pieces of legislation they propose. Simultaneously, we attack the outrageous spending. We must protect our government from itself for it is evident that it cannot, much to the detriment of our beloved nation.

This quote by Mr. Adams is timeless, and our freedoms that were so dearly fought and died for by our ancestors is being "wrested from us by violence without a struggle". Mr. Adams warned us not "to be cheated out of them (our liberties) by the artifices of false and designing men." Our current president has stated that he wants to "fundamentaly change America". I fear for the republic, I fear for America.

    Mark, Tulsa, Ok

To all the folks who believe that, because they voted for Bush or any republican they voted for liberty, I would say both of our current political parties are equally guilty of enslaving the people of this once great republic. As a people we have collectively become to lazy to eveen think or act for ourselves, much less actively educate ourselves about our government.

I find this amazing that what was true 300 years ago, is still true today. Now, with Obama in as President, we are no closer to keeping our individual rights, as we were during the days of Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and earlier. It is not just a shift of power from one corrupt party to another, but a shift of power of: BY the People and FOR the People to BY the Government and FOR the Government. This is Socialism at its best. A limited amount of government control is necessary to keep the checks and balance in proper proportion; but when our very Bill of Rights are being attacked, specifically the 9th and 10th Amendments, then the accountability of our government is no longer accountable to us as their constituency. America must take a stand for which it believes and reach to those Statesmen that still believe the Constitution is the living document of this Land and should remain so.

    Annie, Mahtomedi, MN

Great statement and happening now within our country through the corruption of the elected official by the large group of wealthy in our society. I believe they do not think of us as anything more than pawns to be used and played to benefit them and I believe they think that about congress because congress has allowed them power. Apparently it is not enough to serve the people that elected you in a fair and thorough manner, just the ones with cash. Join the 99% as it starts up or do something you believe in-just do something! Yeah-it's that bad. And Mr. Adams reminds us, it's our duty.

False and designing men's artifices are the rule of tyranny that have in toto replaced the once foundation of our civil Constitution's designed liberties and freedom.

Bob, where in the world does a republic exist? More specifically, where does a "republican form of government" (Article IV Section 4 U.S. Constitution), held sacrosanct by "the laws of nature and of nature's God" (Declaration of Independence) that secures inalienable rights, liberty and individual sovereignty exist? IT DOESN'T ! ! ! By way of example, the current occupying statist theocracy infesting this land, with its compelled compliance, victimless crimes, government licenses, larceny (2nd plank of the communist manifesto, Social Security, police state confiscations, funny money, etc.) and lack of private property are to an extreme antithetical to “The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution”.

This Samuel Adams quote is very appropriate for today's political circumstances where we have the vicious and vile attempt to steal the Presidential Election from President Donald Trump.
