What a hypocritical statement - the truth is we are more conscious of money than we are of the well-being of children. Today as yesterday, we allow atrocities to continue and sit idled by and make ridiculous religious statements about the preservation of human life while turning a blind eye to Darfur and other acts of genocide.

Laws are necessary for us to live in harmony - we are not intelligent enough to live without laws. It's when laws become the tool of the despot, the megalomaniac, the vengeful leader, the egotist, the fool, to manipulate there own agenda and not the the welfare of the people then it is wrong, but in law itself it is pure we make it in pure. It is people not Law that is the problem.

II do not believe Cicero is referring to the bondage you are talking about - it's more to do with self-discipline; without self-discipline there is no freedom. I believe Cicero is referring to this ancient verse when he talks of bondage. We the people create the laws by allowing those in power to be in power. If we disagree there is a democratic system in place to voice your concerns; if there is not a democratic system in place then the people must rise up and take charge of their destiny.
