Woody Allen Quote

“We stand today at a crossroads: One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness. The other leads to total extinction. Let us hope we have the wisdom to make the right choice.”

There is not enough of the quote, the context for it to stand alone. From what I know about Mr. Allen I cannot put names on the town signs of the crossroads described here. The falt not being Mr. Allen's but rather those who have taken this quote out of context.

wow

funny. That was the whole point to it. None other.

this quote is miscategorized. It is about progress, not liberty. Also, Woody Allen is miscategorized as a comedian.

It's no joke... ;-)

Mr Obama ran on a ticket of hope. Hope , however, is a word meaning delayed disappointment.

I think Woody Allen was happy all of his life to date, especially with his Korean step-daughter. This quote reminds me of the "gallows humor" in the Army when we used to say "We don't make much money but we sure do have a lousy time."

I'm not a particular fan of Allen's but, through good clean humor, WOW!!!, how appropriate and accurate, especially on this election day? VERY appropriate and accurate!!!

At least in the former there's a smidgen of hope... We must be the joke of every nation - we espouse the flag of democracy yet behave like a third world country (sorry 3rd world countries - present company excluded). Our voting system is corrupt, and so is our financial and political systems. We need Obama to free us from the enslavement of corporations, from stupidity, and from the extreme right and Christian factions. "Don't say boo get out and vote'

Logan, Memphis, TN

I often wonder why people are so enamored with giving government absolute power in overriding capitalistic investments; do people not think that once government has power it will behave exactly like these corporations? Because of the party system, elections largely don't matter anymore when trying to re-evaluate and shift the direction of America (especially when there are only two parties in the system), because only two schools of thought are present; only an ignorant fool would believe that possibly every good idea could only come through two groups. Thus, in a two party system, when government grabs a hold of absolute power (through the ignorant majority giving it to them through usurpation; or merely with government usurping it without even a majority's consent), it is impossible to change without a revolution. You think getting out from underneath the hand of tyranny from these big bad corporations is hard? Try getting out from the tyrannical hand of government tyranny. Obama is not looking on relieving government tyranny; he only purports more of it (the same goes for McCain).

I have to agree with Logan, but I voted for the electorates that would vote McCain. There were just some things about Obama I could not stand. After the election someone I know said something very inteeresting that goes with this quote. "Would you rather go off the cliff at 60mph or 120mph? Both ways you die, just one is a hell of a lot faster and puts the blame on the other guy."

David, Lexington

I think some people need to learn to take a joke.

RBESRQ We need Obama to free us from the enslavement of corporations, from stupidity, and from the extreme right and Christian factions. "Don't say boo get out and vote' If our Lord doesn't decide the world, or at least this country is due for another bath, you know, as in 40 days and 40 nights, if for no other than our either participation in, or standing back and allowing the slaughter of God's most innocent, slaughter by the millions ... mainly for profit. Now, RBE..... needs Obama to free us from "enslavement of corporations"....sheeech! I'll bet not one in one hundred thousand Americans know why the "Capitalist" are our evil enemy. Well, again it begins with brother V.I. Lenin's persecution of the needs of propaganda. Lenin was listening to some of comrades discuss how they should pose the wonders of socialism against the false claims of these "free" countries. Lenin broke in and said, "If we pose Socialism, with or without the dictatorship of the proletariat, we'll lose every time. It is not Socialism vs free anything, but Socialism against those fat greedy, orphan starving whatever who keep the worker down and barely give him a living wage. That is our charge." And so it was and has been and socially we have bought it, hook line and sinker. Can we see that a little education is indeed a dangerous thing.

excellent

I think we are in need of a third option, considering this quote. The choice we need is equality, order,  justice, and happiness. Let us not forget this possibility, because it is in reality the only one, the challenge is to reach that reality.
